Ok, lets get the ball rolling again, I'll start :-D

Weight loss for this week's weigh in was 2.5lbs, total so far, 13 weeks, 30.5lbs :-)

How have the rest of you done?
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 12.06.08 21:39 UTC
Terribly.  Going to weigh myself etc. on Saturday and definitely starting this weekend!
- By dollface Date 12.06.08 23:31 UTC
I applaud you for trying to lose weight, I think its great that someone if a lil heavy or so is trying thats great :)

My sister is always trying knew things to lose weight and now she wants to try some sort of diet pill which I personally don't think she should. She use to be pretty skinny till she became pregnant with her second child and all that fast food, chocolate milk ect (you no cravings cause mine was fast food with my daughter, and wonder bars with my son). Now almost 16yrs later she is still struggling with her weight, and I personally think alot of it has to with who you take after in your families gene's. My sister took more after one side of the family who are a bit larger and I took after the other side. I told her to just try the calorie count and exercise and NOT to eat after 6 or 7pm cause thats when people become less active, also better to eat plenty of small meals through out the day that helps speed up her matabolism instead of a big supper meal... But she insists on these pills, but i asked her not to so am hoping she does not. She always bugs me that Iam too skinny 120 pounds 5 foot 7, funny even my doctor thought I was and had blood work ect done on me each time I have gone for my physical- this is me I said and I do eat! lol My sister is alot shorter then I, I think she comes up to my nose lol and she's my big sister, My little Brother is like 6 foot 4 or so lol he's chunky but it looks good on him. I know if my sis lived here I would have her walking around the park everyday with me- take the dogs for a walk- much nicer when you have someone to walk/exercise with :)

Personally I wouldn't care what other people think and if you are trying then thats all that matters- do it for you and not for someone else :)

I applaud everyone who has lost weight, and are trying to.

I am trying, so I may get involved in this thread.

With me, I have been bouncing in between weights, for the past 10 years or so.  Its hard to loose weight, especially since I have a thyroid problem.  If my thyroid gets overactive for a bit, I loose tons of weight.  But when it slows down, but I still eat as if its overactive, then I gain and gain.

I try to exercise, but I do have bad knees so its not always possible every day, to do an hour on tread or whatever.

But, with the summer here, its a good time to start the diet again!  Heres to everyone (cheers!)

Hope nobody takes this the wrong way - it is a genuine question, not a dig, but how did you start getting bigger? I know a lot of people say that after they've had children they put on weight or struggle to lose the weight they put on in pregnancy and i just wondered if that was the case? What size were you pre and post pregnancy?

Well done with the weight loss so far guys :-)

- By bilbobaggins [gb] Date 13.06.08 09:58 UTC
35 HAPPENED... Kids grew up and I went to work fulltime 7.5 hrs at a desk. The 1st 1/2 it seems is inevitable!!!!
- By calmstorm Date 13.06.08 10:09 UTC
fredsmum......depends on an awful lot of things really. I always had to watch my weight, although i was not large when young I could have been despite having a very physically active and demanding lifestyle as a young girl/teen and then in my work. I wasnt thin then, curvy and muscle toned and struggled to keep under 9 1/2 stn even though no one would believe I was anywhere near that heavy. I'm only 5'4 tall. So though I didnt follow a slimming diet, I was very careful what I ate, and if it did start to creep up I cut out sugar, any cakes or choc, puds etc (not that I had many of those anyway) and ate slightly smaller portions.

my problem started when I changed career that was not so physically demanding, I had to put in a lot of exercise and change the way I ate, which did involve dieting (slimming) by counting cals. Arthritus came along and did slow me down (following a back injury) and the weight seemed to creep up, having the boys did add more pounds, which found others to join them, time goes by and the weight seems just something more to cope with, you buy a size bigger, the struggle is imense especially as I knew should I ever be unable to do a vast amount of exercise I would have weight problems. health problems had also joined in, it happens.

So my weight gain is not simply over eating for a year or two, or only from having babies, it was always going to be there if I took my eye off the ball or couldn't exercise. But it will come off, determination is a powerful tool, no matter how long it takes.

good luck to everyone!

For me, I was it wasnt a pregnancy.

When I was younger, I used to be really heavy.  I was 164 pounds in grade 6.  And it wasnt that I ate alot, had no idea why I was so heavy.  I was so ashamed, and I went to my doctor.  He told me to write down everything, I was gonna eat before I did, and then think "Do I really want/need this".  Ended up going down to 120 lbs by grade 8.

Then started dance.  I had been fooling round with Dancing earlier, but was to heavy.  So when I lost all the weight, I was so happy, and started dance. Modern, ballet, anything!  Then in grade 11, my knee blew out from an injury.  Firgured, ok, get this healed and get right back to dance.  Did that, and it popped out again, within the first week.  Had a couple surgeries, and now realize that I cant dance anymore.

Its maddening, cos my mom is only 100 pounds (and desperately trying to gain weight!) and my twin sister is slim as well (120).  Its kinda like, ok, where do I fit into this family?

Really wanting to loose weight.  Part of my problem, is that I have bought into other people saying "you cant do this because of your knees, or your heart (I have a bad heart as well)." So to stop the fighting, I stopped doing any real good exercising.

How is everyone else doing it?  I know exercise has to be in there somewhere, so what kinds of routines do you use?
- By dollface Date 13.06.08 11:59 UTC
crespin: Just a thought but could you do water exercise? Much easier on the knee's as there is no real weight being put on them and heard this type of exercise is suppose to be really good :) I know they offer this where I live and its fairly fare for price, a lady at my work was doing it for a bit and she said you get a real good work out and its quite fun as well...
- By Nikita [gb] Date 13.06.08 12:04 UTC
Started again today, ish.  Ish because I'm eating an absolutely gorgeous bacon and duck egg sarnie at the mo :-P But, I haven't bouight any junk food today which is the first step for me (I have sugar addiction and habitual shopping issues!).

I've had a bit of a kick up the bum with the junk though, because I'm strapped for cash - meaning that I have roughly £14 spare to pay for food, gas and diesel (unless I use my credit card which I'm trying to avoid), which has to last until payday on the 31st!  So I literally can't go buying junk.  Brilliant jolt into action that!

On top of that, my holiday to Spain is booked for the last week in August - and as I'm around 2 1/2 stones overweight, I really need to get moving (literally) to shift it before then.  Especially as I have told my stepmum that I *will* be thin when I get there! :-D
- By Crespin Date 13.06.08 12:05 UTC
Will look into that water exercise!  It would be especially good, I think since it would cool me off to, with the hot weather we have been having.

Thanks!
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 13.06.08 12:07 UTC
Great idea:Swimming or "aqau aerobics" are both great. Get a friend to join you. Kills 2 birds with one stone as you can have a swim, do a few lengths then stop for a chat. Its far more sociable doing it with a mte and you are less likely to shy away from it if you have a buddy to go with. Go for it!!!! best type of exercise as it uses every muscle without damaging your joints :-)
- By kerrib Date 13.06.08 12:12 UTC
Before my children were born I was a very slim size 10/12 (depending on where I bought the clothes).  I was pregnant with twins and at 24 weeks I was measuring 36 so you can imagine how big I was (they were 7 lb and 7 lb 10 oz when they were born at full term).  It got to the stage where I was wearing size 18 maternity clothes and even then some were tight.  I ate healthily but the weight piled on.  Despite my hardest after they were born I could only get down to a snug 14, mostly size 16 and this was with exercise.  Unfortunately after 2 more children and another jump in size my stomach is not the prettiest of things and as such I do find I have go a size larger to accommodate my "apron" as its called, so clothes are always tight across this part yet huge for my bum and thighs!  So my weight is definitely related to having children ;-) :-)
- By georgepig [gb] Date 13.06.08 12:12 UTC
I went to aqua aerobics a few times with my mate and I have never laughed so much in my life.  It was hilarious - I've never laughed before when exercising!

She is on the larger side and so as a gentle introduction to exercise it was great as less damaging for joints etc etc but still burning calories and raising the heart rate.

Post pregnancy I carried about 10st 10lbs had a 10lb 9 oz baby, went down again into a size 14 jeans, fell pregnant again, had a miscarriage, wept solidly for the next 6 months a didnt lose the weight. Had Sam 8lb 8 oz permature (all this in my 30's) - thank god!! Didnt really lose it all was a size 16.Had cancer and a hystorectomy (in my 40's)  plus I have artitic knees and now I am a size 20 - but losing as we speak. I would like to be a size 14/16 and I am now in my 50's.So It just sort of happenede worse in the past 5 yaers as i am office based 50 hours a week running a building company, its doing v.well but i do not move much. Now past 12 months we have two doggies and I am walking about 3 - 5 miles a day so I am 1 stone down but need another 3 to go.
Sometimes you just look up one day and you are fat... I have two son's now 21 & 23 who are thin ( Ben is 6'5" about 12 an half stone, Sam is 6'3" 10 stone like a bean stalk but he is asthmatic) my OH is tall so am I at 5'9". It just happens.
- By pavlova [gb] Date 15.06.08 11:31 UTC
I lost one and a half pounds this week, thank goodness as I,ve maintained for the last two.
If I manage to lose half a pound this wednesday night I,ll be back in target and four pounds fifty richer.
Hope I can do it as like most other people I,m trying to tighten the purse strings a little at the moment.

Friday morning weigh in 13st 1lb, 5lb loss this week (poor appetite due to sad death of friend and Mentor)

Total loss since New Year 3st 9lb.

Just over 2 1/2 stone to go.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 15.06.08 11:53 UTC
You sound so like me, it has been a lifetime struggle and have spent a lot of it overweight.
- By Jolene [gb] Date 15.06.08 12:37 UTC
Well done Barbara, thats still a great weight loss under those circumstances................I'd have dived for the chocolate and a bottle of wine and put on 5lbs.....

So sorry to hear the sad news of your friend :-(
- By killickchick Date 15.06.08 14:06 UTC

> how did you start getting bigger?

Giving up smoking in Oct 07!! Had always weighed 6.5-7 stone after having  3 kids. Was 6 stone pre babies.Over the years crept up to 7.5 stone and stayed like that until now, could eat anything I liked all day long if I wanted. Had to give up smoking for my health, started eating loads more bread instead :( Now I weigh 10 stone. Have never weighed so much in my life - full term pregnant I was only 8 stone!

Have to really motivate myself to start losing weight and eating in a healthier manner before I get any bigger......can't bear to have my photo taken or look in the mirror :(
- By pavlova [gb] Date 15.06.08 15:30 UTC
So sorry to hear you,ve lost your friend Barbara.
I was wondering where you were for the last few days sadly that explains it.
Sharon
- By Brainless [gb] Date 15.06.08 16:30 UTC
Yes it has left me a bit off balance, apart from feling her loss, she was only a year older than my Dad, and it brought it home to me that it could so easily have been him.
- By Crespin Date 15.06.08 17:42 UTC
Can someone please explain what a stone is?  I see it alot, and I did try to look it up online, so I didnt sound foolish, but all I get is explainations of different types of rocks.

Something to add, I think I am loosing a bit of weight, as my clothes arent fitting the same, I am now having to pull jeans up constantly that were a little tight before.  But I dont have a scale in my house, so I cant check!!!!!

Also, went out for a walk yesterday, and it was really good, I was gone for almost 4 hours.  Now, it wasnt that far really, as most people can walk what I did in about an hour, but I wasnt about to mess up my legs, so I took lots of breaks and walked slow.  I also had Cher out with me, so it did her some good too!!!!
- By Crespin Date 15.06.08 17:43 UTC
So sorry to hear of your loss, of a good friend and mentor!  Do take care of yourself during this time.

- By Jolene [in] Date 14.07.08 20:47 UTC
Good going Barbara............

I stayed the same last weeks weigh-in, but I had stayed at a 4* Hotel for the weekend with eats for free! I'd put on 2lbs when I got home on Sunday last week, but managed to shed it again by Tuesdays weigh-in

Weigh-in tomorrow evening, I hope I've lost..............need another 15lbs to get to goal!
- By Nikita [gb] Date 15.07.08 07:23 UTC
Well done to everyone who's doing so well!

I'm not, although I haven't weighed myself this week and I should have lost a bit.  Still got most of the weight to go though.

But, things are conspiring to help me - for one thing, I have 5 1/2 weeks till I go on holiday to Spain... and for another, I am so totally flat broke that I'm having to eat as little as I can get away with, and value stuff, so I can afford my bills.  Joy.  :-(
- By Fluffydog [gb] Date 15.07.08 07:44 UTC
Lost weight put it on, lost the weight i put on plus more then put it back on.

What a yo yo.

Had a good talk to myself and now i think it is under control again as i have lost 7 lbs in the last two weeks and feel really inspired at last.

That's the good side the bad side is that i still have the minimum of 3 stone to go.  Should be more but i'm aiming for 3 to start with.  I've also decided to reward myself every time i lose half a stone.  This time was a haircut (amazing how that perks you up when done well).

Next half stone a new pair of shoes - don't need new clothes as i have a complete new wardrobe waiting for me when i lose the weight.  The one i've had for years just sitting waiting for the day to come when it can be worn again (and probably back in fashion).  I know it's difficult to keeping splashing out on things and some rewards will just be having an evening of pampering myself at home with what i have in the cupboard. Sorry if it sounds selfish to be me me me but i think i have found something that works - if i don't lose i don't get my treats - ooh sound more like my dogs every day.

Wll done everyone we can keep up the good work.
- By inthemistuk [gb] Date 15.07.08 08:36 UTC
i joined slimming world 2 weeks ago as i have put on 5 stone due to not being able to walk and quitting smoking...
last week i lost 6lb  and yesterday i lost 4lb
so on my way to being slim again
- By Brainless [gb] Date 15.07.08 10:31 UTC
Good luck.  Been there before and put the weight back on, but determined to stay on top of it this time.  At least even if you yo yo it has to be better than just keeping putting it on.
- By Jolene [in] Date 15.07.08 14:11 UTC
It's not selfish, I do the same, but I leave my rewards for the stone milestones :-)
