Topic Dog Boards / Health / Homeopathy vs vaccination

Has anyone used homeopathy rather than vaccination?  Were your experiences good or bad?

I have not and always feel that those who do rely on those of us who vaccinate to help keep the infection at bay within the community. Did once attend a weekend conference about this subject and was so confused by the different views and the way homeopathic preparations were being used that I lost confidence, not in the product so much but in those who were supposed to be introducing it to us the outsiders who still chose to vaccinate. This was some time ago and it could be that things have improved and they would now be able to answer questions with the same answers but as I said at the time I though there was very little proof or agreement amongst the advocates.

You may find this interesting.
Peoples "experiences" may be very misleading. Ie "took nosodes did not catch disease or did not die of disease" tells us nothing about whether the nosodes contibuted to that or not.

My dogs are protected with homeopathic nosodes, every 6 months they are taken to a homeopathic vet who is also a conventional vet, and they have a 6 day course of nosodes.  After seeing so many of my friends dogs have problems after vaccinations some dying some just very poorly then I felt in my opinion nosodes were the safer way to go.  I do think maybe puppy vaccination is advisable but it is the yearly boosters that are a crime.  Again my opinion.  I have purchased dvd from canine health concern http://www.canine-health-concern.org.uk/ and it is really interesting to listen to conventional vets speak their mind about yearly boosters.  Well worth watching.

I'd also add that a friends dog died last year of lepto having been vaccinated every year for this which to me proves that the lepto vaccine is not worth the risk.  It is the most dangerous and only effective between 3-9 months and doesn't cover the strains found in the uk.

It covers L.canicola and L.icterohaemorrhagiae both of which are present in the UK.  Dogs are the natural reservoir of L.canicola.  The incidence has been reduced across Europe and this has been attributed to widespread vaccine use.  Both of these are serious zoonotic diseases.  L.icterohaemorrhagiae (Weils disease) is generally carried by rats and presents more of a risk to man but will still affect dogs.

Do vets still do or advise annual boosters? Mine does not.

Do vets still do or advise annual boosters

I can only speak for 2 local practices, and yes they do send out reminders every year for boosters. (even manufacturers advise 3 yearly, except for lepto).

But most people wouldn't except lepto so yes, it is annual.  My vet has never sent reminders but if they did I would expect annually.

i get reminders every year BUT.........only for lepto. my vet only does the other boosters every 3 years.
