Hello everyone my dog has been panting and been very restless since approx 10am this morning, no signs of straining as yet, but she does have a reddish brown discharge which is quick thick which she is constantly licking, Is this normal or do i need to panic???? Any quick advice would be great. I am very confused???

Have you spoken to your vet?
No not as yet cant get through? Am still trying

You say 'is my dog in whelp/labour'. Is it that you are not sure if she is in whelp. Did you have her mated. If not and she is showing no other signs except the panting and the discharge, it could well be pyometra, in which case she needs to see a vet as soon as possible. If you did have her mated then you still need to see a vet. Reddish brown discharge is old blood, that is to say, blood that has been inside for a while before working its way out. Either way, ring your vet immediately.
Hi yes my dog was mated and scanned and would of been due monday, i was told not pregnant, just been on phone to vets and they not to worry at moment
Hi
I was also told my dog was not pregnant and she ended up having 11 pups, we were worried and took vets and they did a c-section, so if you are worried my advise is to tell vets you want to be seen a.s.a.p.

Is she drinking more than usual. Or is she trying to make a nest, scratching at bedding or trying to get outside and under shrubbery.
Hi
Does sound like she is in whelp..
Maybe she is having one or two and the scan did not see them..
Although saying this when my bitch had her Pyo she had green discharge and was seen immediatly ( 1 in the morning) they rushed her in and she was swiftly spayed much to the horror of me and my mum as she is a gorgeous bitch and has won 2 cc's!! heart breaking but we have a fabulous dog never the less..
i would get the vet around to help.. she sounds like she's very over due and distressed..

I agree with fecimus. Get the vet. The normal colour for pre whelping discharge is white/creamy. Redish brown is NOT normal.

Any coloured discharge BEFORE first pup should ring alarms, I would get to the vet now

As we've not heard from you for last 1/2 hour, I presume you are at the vets. I hope so, we're all terribly worried. Please let us know how you get on.
Hi all thanks for your response i have been in touch with vets and they say she is ok and all is normal just have to wait now

Hope everything is ok - got my fingers crossed
My girl had her pups 4 weeks ago and she started like you described with yours.when I saw the reddy/brown discharge I was just about to phone the vets in a panic when she started straining and a few mins later no.1 popped out.Hope everything goes o.k for girl.

My friend was told her girl was not pregnant after scanning she ended up with 5 and they weren't small either!

If there are no sign of any puppies by morning I would take her to the vet to be checked. Don't take her in the waiting room by any other dogs, as she will sit on the floor and could pick up an infection. The vet can give her an internal to see if she is in labour.
