There is a girl who has many dogs and she brings them with her to our land as she has horses on it.
Yesterday she and her sister was asking about their bitch who is coming out of season and wanted answers about how long they last etc etc etc. I was dumb founded that they have a bitch who they don't plan to breed from as she is some Staffy mix and that they have no idea about seasons. I had to say about putting her away into their car as we have 3 entire males on our land and one of them had real interest in her.

Then one of the girls who has a 5 month old Pom in her arms was saying that she knew she was doing the wrong thing by picking her pup up everytime she was scared of another dog. I did express my opnions on that she should take the pup to puppy parties and also training classes so that in a controlled environment this would start to help her wee one.

Now this is the major concern she said she has this pup to breed from her, she is only 5 months old so has no idea if she will be good enough. She doesn't have a mentor, and by the fact she has no idea about seasons is a major concern from the start off. I asked if she was going to show the pup and she said no she is just for breeding. She is going to use her male Pom on her who again isn't shown and to be honest i don't know the standard so i can't say if they are even close to it. Also no health checks have been done on the male and the chances of them being done on the bitch when she is old enough is slim to none.
This girl is very sensitive and i was considering asking her the affix of the pup she has now and then getting in contact with this breeder and expressing my concerns over the pup being bred from.
What do you think is the right thing to do here?
I think if your going to breed them it should not be done lightly and also to better the breed, so looking at the genetics of the lines and having all the relevant checks on both bitch and stud dog along with making sure they are both of sound temprement and fit the standard pretty well.

There isn't too  much you can do unless the girls are willing to listen :-( There are so many people who only have a 'pet' dog/bitch that they have got so that they can breed from it. You can only try to encourage them to look into breeding from them sensibly. Talk them through the pitfalls of actually having pups. Tell them about caesarians, and the possibility of losing mum and pups. Are they prepared for the heartache?

Re the Pom's breeder. One way round it would be to ask the girl to bring the documents for both of her dogs so that you can help her find out if the pedigrees are a good match ;-) Hopefully you will then be able to find out the breeders name, and hopefully address or phone number :-)

Also you could see if there are endorsements and if there are, tell the girl that she would not be able to register the pups unless endorsements are lifted

If she were just wanting to breed and make money :( that wouldn't matter to her though!

I have had a chat with her about breeding from her Pom. She said that the bitch is without papers and the male is with papers.
She said that where she got the Pom from is a reputable breeder who also breeds GSD, this breeder used to live in Kent but has recently moved up north, have no idea who she may be talking about.

She went on to say that she only wants to breed one litter for her friends and family. I mentioned all the health checks which she isn't going to do. She wasn't aware that many of the toy breeds can have trouble whelping and that she needs lots of money in case a problem occurs during the birth. She didn't even know what whelping meant.
She reckons she has a mentor, surely though no mentor in the breed would assist in this type of BYB.
She went on raving about how much money she would be making from this.

I tried to go through all the cons of her doing this, she mas made up her mind, i suppose that there really is nothing i can do to stop her.
