Foo / fashions and disasters....but we thought we looked good
So what clothes took your fancy? I remember dresses with a zip down the front, and metal belts that were in circles and fastened with a catch that always opened! Boots that were like socks when you pulled them up, skinny things, mini skirts and...see through blouses! **shock** :).....loons (jeans with the most massive bottoms) jeans with the V at the knee, very often two colours, bell bottom trousers and jeans, wide collars, cream and brown colours, all things denim, I thought I looked really super cool in my Jeans, denim shirt or a T shirt with a denim waistcoat or jacket over! 'Blakie' coats, platform shoes....fell off the rocker ones :) :)....
hair....page boy, which meant you had to sleep in rollers (uck) or use heated rollers, the 'feather cut' which I thought looked so cool....and i loved it, hair down my back but layered on top...mmmm.....took ages to grow out! The lovely 'shaggy' perm or natural straight hair down to the bum.
make up, remember 'cheaky chops' which could be blusher or lipstick? Blue eyeshadow and block mascara...panda eyes if it rained, or you had something in your eye.

Old hippy here so maxi skirts and coat ...tye dye shirts, cheesecloth, sandals, beads .... midi skirts for best ...jeans with bits of a coloured material put into the sides . hair, long with loose thin plaits along my fringe :) Plimsolls because trainers hadn't been invented or imported then :) :)
Jeans HAD to be Levis and bought rock hard and dark blue then worn in with patches and embroidery put on :) Oh and I had a pair of Brutus Gold jeans at one point
Make up ...mulberry or dark blue colours and thick dark lashes ...real panda eyes but deliberate :) :)

I had jeans that I wore in the bath to shrink em!!! Then lying on the floor in order to zip them up!
Probably my most fashion faux-pas was when I was pregnant, way back when wheels were square, and minis were in .........white stretchy boots and the shortest of short mini-dresses - just about covering my embarrassment (as my mother so aptly put it!!). 10 years and 3 pregnancies further on, I wore them as tops over maternity jeans :)

Legwarmers over my jeans :) really long ones up to my thigh!!
oh wow leg warmers!!!! and we thought we were cool!

Jeans, taken in to really tight drainpipes then bleached in the bath, bleach squirted in squiggly patterns, loved them!
also ra ra skirts! mine was turquise...wow i thought i was lovely...
Velvet pedal pushers.......
Mine were navy velvet with a silver buckle at the side of the knee....
Very trendy !!! (not)....

Er, I had tartan shoes! I know, I know but I mean EVERYONE but EVERYONE had them. Didn't they???
And that poodle hair I had on my wedding day. What WAS I thinking.

Does any one remember the pull on leg boot socks.
They were in a faux patent leather and you could pretend you had real boots on.

leg warmers were cool, especially multi-coloured stripey ones ;)

Oh yes legwarmers were so cool, and fingerless gloves, and tartan denim, pedal pushers and braces! In my case a ghastly sheepy big perm too. Lovely!

LOL I have a piccie on the wall of me like that :) wearing a batwing cardi!!!
My wardrobe was full of batwing jumpers, dresses etc and
shoulder pads!! Everything had to have shoulder pads :-D

Levi jeans worn in the bath to shrink.....and yes they did dye your skin blue. Platform shoes and big collar shirts with a tank top.
Does anyone remember the jeans that were intended to lose their colour in the wash.....and they did, but also on your legs, especially if you got wet in the rain!
American tan tights.....everyones fav....***uck now *** and pop sox...sometimes worn on top of american tan tights to make your legs look as if they were tanned!

Tie dye tee-shirts and Afghan coats that stank like wet dog.
I had a fab pair of suede boots made up of loads of colours with stars on the toes... how cool was I?
My biggest faux pas ( that I'm aware of :-) ) was wearing a Christmas prezzie from my sister down to Christmas lunch... everyone burst out laughing 'cos it was a M&S nightie ...I thought it was a cool maxi dress. My sisters boyfriend laughed the hardest and made me blush so much I wouldn't come back down.
Teenage years were difficult eh?

Being under 5 ft I was thrilled when platform shoes were in..........until I realised everyone was wearing them and I looked even shorter! :-( almost broke my ankle so many times!
Funny Dill, sounds like my luck

I remember the faux patent boots, in fact I had a black pair and a white pair, to match the white pair I had a white shiny mini mac (remember those) and a white floppy shiny hat, I was such a trendy babe :)

Perry I was begining to think I was imagining them.....it was quite a while ago wasn't it?
I dont remember much else but didn't we think we were the bees knees! :)
KAren
I had a tie die T shirt in purple, pink Flares with a patch of an apple with a bite taken out of it on me bum. Plus an afgan coat that smelt like a dead goat when it rained, plus me platform shoes, I was the bees knees.

dont remember much else but didn't we think we were the bees kneesapparently if you remember too much of the 60's you weren't there :)
I think it would be about 68 or 69 and with mini skirts WOW
What about paper dresses, can anyone remeber those, I had a couple I think I sent off for them from Jackie or Fab magazines? my favourite had lime green and purple stripes!
Then I came to a bit of a standstill in the fashion stakes in the 70's apart from flares and patforms, and I waited patiently for the BIG hair and shoulder pads of the 80's!

Calmstorm I do remember american tan tights they were the ONLY colour to have if you wanted to be 'ahead of the fashion game'!
now don't laugh but I actually remember wearing a bikini with a pair of american tan tights underneath so that my legs didn't look too pale.....I'm not telling you anymore of my embarrassing fashion faux pas I'm logging off and getting some filing done.
What about paper dresses, can anyone remeber those
I can remember paper knickers, does that count? :-D :-D
I used to have one of those crochet dresses too LOL

HG, I see from the other thread that you wore a crombie. I had a crombie too, but did you have the red handkerchief and 'diamond' stud in the pocket? During the skinhead era I also wore the twotone mohair skirts (couldn't afford a whole suit) and also the loafers. My only problem was that I had such naturally curly hair that I couldn't have the 'pixie' type haircut. Still I was well-in when the afro perms came into fashion - Lol
I still have very curly hair and waiting patiently for curly hair to come back in.

I had three pairs of, wait for it, knickerbockers. Remember them - made famous by the late Princess Di! Also suede pixie boots (burgundy) and white mini dresses/ra ra dresses with bright red accessories: shoes, plastic belt, bangles and massive beads.
Also, didn't miss my weekly copy of JACKIE!

Oh yes Crombie with red hankie and stud, two tone suits, loafers...then later maxi coat all shiny.......wet look it was called...
I loved the two toned suits tho.......oh oxford bag trousers..........

My elder sister had a boyfriend who worked in a boutique in Carnaby Street. He got her a paper dress, she thought she was the dogs B*llox. I
cut it up to make clothes for my Tressy and Sindy dolls. She still has not forgiven me !!!!!
I loved my Oxford Bags covering my wedges so it looked as though I had no feet.Silk bomber jackets, great big collars that whipped you in the eyes if the wind blew too hard and flick up fringes, finished off with a wicker basket for your school books,,,,
