My bitch had her pups 2 weeks ago and hasnt had alot of milk as she hasnt been well so ive been topping the pups up, now she is reluctant to go and feed them as she has what i describe as "love bites" from the pups being so hungry ive cut the pups nails as well but shes very sore is there any cream i can put on her to help she has 8 very large pups!!! Thanks

The best thing to do (depending on size of dog) is to put an old t-shirt (or similar) over her. Cut out holes for the teats so that pups can still feed off her. If she is a big breed then use an old sheet and use nappy pins to hold it in place.

I used a lanolin based cream for myself after my kids were born, but don't know if it's safe for dogs. Anyone know? Book of the bitch isn't easy to hand ;-)

I find you need to trim claws every couple of days they soon get sharp again and are like little needles.
Try splitting the litter and letting her suckle half at a time, not quite so much frantic fighting and pulling and pushing for Mum if the pups can get onto one teat and stay there instead of knocking one another of and getting so frantic.
Aileen.
