Do you remember the school yard games you played?
Skipping, long rope one each end

Elastics.....one standing in each end, 'knicker' elastic around the legs, started with ankles and you did all sorts of moves in the middle. Went neck high for the athletic ones :)

tag, hopscotch........

Yes! I remember the elastics and sometimes and three people stand in to make a triangle shape!!!
And the double dutch game, used to love that too!

Kids don't seem to play those games anymore, got hopscotch painted in the playgrounds but never seen elastics or long skipping ropes to do double dutch.

Also Conquers do remember those? put them on a shoe lace and take them into school and see how long yours would last before getting a chip or shattering!
My son bought one home once and I told him that if we put a shoe string through it he could play it at school with his friends, the next day he came home from school and said the teacher had taken it off him and put it in the bin as it was not allowed in school! for goodness sake!

Elastic bands one was french skipping. Do you remember jacks?
Hopscotch, kiss chase, at Boarding school catching falling leaves meant a letter from home.

> said the teacher had taken it off him and put it in the bin as it was not allowed in school

wow :(

can anyone remember the ball things that were banned in school?  Canackers or something? Two hard balls on either end of string with a handle. You would try and hit them together really quickly

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/archive/index.php/t-9885.html so pertinant to all the recent threads

Oooh, elastics (heaps of rubber bands joined together), remember jacks too.  Anyone remember British Bulldog (got banned in our school as considered too dangerous!!

We played 2 ball, jacks and lazzies ...as well as skipping with either one or two ropes (double Dutch according to the US but we just called it 2 ropes lol), British Bulldog, hide and seek, kiss chase ....

Canackers or something?

They were knockers, and i think they were banned full stop, not just schools, because of the damage they did, broken bones! I loved them had a few bruises but what the heck!

sadly, most of the old school fun and games the kids today are not allowed, not even running around! Sad, but a sign of the times we live in. I see no wrong with games, they have to let steam off somewhere, provided there is someone responsible watching just in case of accidents.

BUT please, can we stay on our memories? :) :) :)

I remember the ball in the sock, staning against the wall doing N S E W...can't remember the rest ;)....and korky the cat

Handstands against the wall with your skirt tucked in your knickers :) and another would do one between your legs, another between hers etc

Clackers I think they were called
- By gembo [gb] Date 18.06.08 16:40 UTC
Clackers were good fun, I seem to remember them coming in fluroescent (sp) colours!

There was a game whereby you had a ball attached to a hoop on a string that went round you ankle & you had to spin it round & jump over it! I loved that, mine had a counter on it!

Hand stands against a wall also, not sure about the skirt in knickers though (only joking!).  Also played skipping, ring a roses, bulldogs (eventually banned too) & grass fights when the field was cut (great for hayfever sufferers!)

Think I was a bit of a geek at school cos at middle school I joined a cross stitch club & a hydroglpics (fancy writing) club so did these at lunch, plus I helped run the tuck shop at school breaks - Space Raiders for 10p...ace!

We had yoyos as well :) French skipping, ordinary skipping, hoola hoops, played What's The Time Mr Wolf, Stuck in the Mud and lots of those counting games where you put both hands out clenched as fists and did the counting type rhymes - One Potato, Two Potato etc. We also did the hand clapping rhymes such as "I went to a chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread".

> not sure about the skirt in knickers though

LOL I Should have said tucked in the legs of the knickers to hide them :-D

Marbles!
