We finally got our Pygmy goats this past weekend, they are so cute! Their personalities are showing through now. The male (Pippin) is very cheeky and bossy while the female (Merry) is very calm and petite. Have sent the whole week down in the paddock with them.
Does anyone else have goats? Hoping to go to a few goat shows in the near future too!

ah goats, I don't have any, but would really like some angora (sp) goats!
I bet they are sooooo cute!! me jealous now! :) :) xx

had them for years....couldnt pay me to have them now!!!

I am jealous cos I do love goats, we used to have a Toggenburg and a Saanen when I was growing up but it's not practical at the moment. I am presuming pygmy goats are just kept as pets? I bet they are lovely.
Yes, they will just be much loved pets who go to the odd show. I do also like the ones with the floppy ears, can't remember what they are called now but we haven't got masses of space so went for the Pygmys. The breeder who we bought them from had over 90 goats!!!

I've got 2 pygmies as well, 10 years old now. Although they are brothers they have no similarities - one is much bigger and their colouring is very different, not to mention their personalities.

we had anglo nubians and although we had 2 at a time on 6 acres of scrub, they were never happy and would break out on a daily basis. I dont like tethered goats so the plat was well fenced to 6 feet yet still they escaped, they were returned many times from 2 miles away along with large bills for the damage they did!!! We actually watched them scale a 6 foot fence once! One had a hate of poultry and we coiuldnt understand why we kept finding very flat dead hens until we saw her corner one, stamp on it and then squash it! Another day I discovered the fence almost flattened because one of them decided to eat through a 3"x3" fence post! The worst (funniest) was when they scaled the fence and got into my mothers garden and ate a whole set of loose covers she had hanging to dry on the washing line!
When I went to college my mother refused to look after them term time so they went to a childrens farm in plymouth and to my knowledge they were there for years and years but they had to tether them because they were so naughty....guess they couldnt take risks in the town with traffic etc :(

I guess temperament might vary between breeds, we had a lovely gentle nanny goat who never got up to any mischief! She was a very good milker and just so sweet too. Never had to be tethered because she didn't try to escape.
Thats the breed I was thinking about, Anglo Nubians! Good job we didn't go for them then! Your poor chickens! Our 2 are very placid and I thought they would be nibbling everything but don't at all. We have been building a new duck pond and they just follow us around, having a nosey at everything.
i have had it suggested to me that i should borrow some goats to help me keep on top of my garden, i am just a bit worried about flea's or ticks, getting on to my Dane, any suggestions

mizzransay....they dont really get fleas although mites are not unknown. many people forget goats dont really want to eat grass they want to browse shrubs.....usually destryoying all the nice plants and leaving the grass un touched!!! id be more worried about the goat butting your dane than anything....we had one blighter with horns and he nearly took a dobermanns eye out when she got too close to have a sniff!
Oh, I love goats. I used to have Old English which are small (but bigger than pygmies!) and really easy to keep. Sadly I moved and don't have room to keep them now, but they went back to the breeder of my original goat who has quite a big herd. I used to make yoghurt and soft cheese, and reared the male kids for meat.
