Topic Dog Boards / Health / cost of vaccinations
- By pinklilies Date 17.06.08 18:46 UTC
I have become aware of a vast difference in the cost of standard vaccinations offered by various vets (not boosters). I did a mini bit of research, and discovered that locally the most expensive was £46.95 and so far the cheapest was £26.55 for the same course of two vaccinnations not including kennel cough. I asked each vet for a quote based on an adult large breed dog to rule out any confusion. How can this huge variation be justifiable?
What do you all pay for vaccinnations?

I paid £52.80 yesterday for my giant breed's booster & kennel cough vaccinations.

We charge the same price regardless of breed. There are two puppy courses (one for low risk pups and one for high risk pups) ranging from just under £50 to £65 for the two courses. This is for DHP & L.

Regardless of breed round her.  Just paid £27.00 for Cali and then found out that a vets around the corner is only charging £20.00!!  Normal price at all other vets around here is about £42.00.

Booster £52.80, good God you are being robbed, I thought Ireland was cheaper.  Vet around my way charges £18.00 for the booster.

I recently did quite a bit of research locally and found the variation to be substantial

Two injections including Lepto but not including KC  top price was £71.38
                                                                         Lowest price  £32   :-D

Booster £17 :-D

Identical products and easier to get an appointment at the cheaper place ???  (same town)

Guess where I went?

The surgery was clean, a few vets there at the time, pup had a really good once over.  Lovely chatty vet, no sense of being rushed. surgery hours 9-6 ;)

They provide a full veterinary service and even do home visits !!!   Prices for routine procedures are published online!!! (that's a first around here ;) )

They are so busy they are extending the surgery to cope with demand.   I think the other vets in the area will have to watch out!

Cheaper?  I wish!  Cost of living in Belfast is higher than most UK cities!  I do use probably the most expensive vet in the area (it's the veterinary hospital) but it's the closest to my house and they are the best :-)  I was previously with the cheapest vet in the area and, believe me, the extra that we pay now is worth every penny!!

My latest addition's course cost £78 for DHPL - no KC in with it.  (big windows!!!! >sigh<)

Sssssshhh...keep your voice down, Teri....my vet might hear you and decide he's too cheap!:-D

Maybe it's to do with supply, ie, if a practice has a high volume of pups per year they may get bulk-discount on large orders so can offer thier saving to the clients?

£78 :-O :-O :-O

Gosh, the variation is even worse than I thought!!

My dog just had his booster with KC and they said its cheaper to do the whole lot together, i paid £57.

From looking on here that does seem to be the average, though i feel i live in an area of England where prices are high for everything.

How come when people can buy the vaccinations in Ireland really cheaply that the Irish vets are putting such a high price on them?  I know some of you will say overheads but this does seem a lot!
