So, what comics stired it for you when you were child, and mags too?

Comics were dandy, beano, then Mandy (loved the 'valda' stories) June, School friend (which joined to become June and School friend) Jackie.
mags were anything horsey, loved the 'Pony' magazine, had lots of horsey girl penpals from that.

Annuals were again Mandy, Beano and dandy, can't remember the rest but always had a Xmas stocking loaded with them!

So, whats your's? :)

When I was VERY young, Jack and Jill, and Playhour (had my picture in both when I was 5 I think) (Talking about 1959-60 here)

A bit older ...Girl, Princess (which went on to become Princess Tina) ..Bunty, Judy and Mandy (1964-68)

As a teenager ...FAB208, Honey and 19 :- D :- D (1968 -70)

I thought Dandy and Beano etc started in the 30's :)

When I was very little my granny used to send me a comic every week - Playhour or something, I can't really remember, but this was the early 60s and I was about 5! - then there was Look & Learn, then I progressed to the Beano, Dandy (those cr*ppy free gifts on the front!), Topper and Beezer (remember the Iron Eaters and the Numbskulls?); Bunty and Tammy briefly then when I reached the dizzy heights of secondary school I stuck with Mandy (oh yes, the Valda stories were brilliant!) and Jackie.

I was never a comic book person either, I always thought they were more aimed at boys e.g Beano & Dandy! I used to read Smash Hits religiously though, especially liked the section of song words to cut out & keep! Bet my mum loved that too!!! he he he...

Well I had Twinkle and The one with Tales of the Riverbank, then moved onto Jackie when a bit older, then my Mums Woman and Woman's Own.

To be honest I preferred books, anything about animals especially and right until today love Fantasy.  also love Historical Fiction.  Read all the Georgette Heyer books as a teen.
- By Honeybee [gb] Date 17.06.08 15:49 UTC
Ooh I always got Twinkle, used to love it and had a spaceship lollipop t-shirt, actually so did my brother who was probably the only boy to have his picture in Twinkle!

I used to love the Twinkle - I remember being given an old copy of Sunny Stories (Enid Blyton I think), loved it. Then of course Jackie. Does anyone remember Popswop? (think that was what it was called) and the one with all the tv programmes in it - the name escapes me... was it the Look -in or was that something else?

Well my Dad ran a village shop for a few years when I was little.  I used to sit on the counter and read all the comics that were being sent out (very carefully of course)  I really liked Beano, Dandy and The Eagle but ended up having Princess for while - pretty boring.  My sister had Bunty which I thought was better.  I became very sensible! and took the Knowledge magazine that built into an Encyclopedia. Must have cost me a fortune.  However our friend's son always had the Beano and the Eagle so used to catch up there.  As I got older I liked the American comics - Superman, Justice League America etc.  but only bought them on holidays.  Never liked girly comics really.
