Hi, we have a week's holiday coming up shortly, (26th July) can anyone recommend anywhere that's really dog friendly, I have been told that a lot of beaches are closed to dogs between May and September, we have been scouring the internet, but after a while you get fed up of looking (or I do), my OH is going mad at me for not being able to choose anywhere, but he is just as bad, just wondered if anybody could suggest from personal experience.  Thanks

The Lake District?  Beautiful place, lovely walks, lakes to swim in, very dog friendly in shops and alot of pubs.  :-)  I, personally would stay away from the central lakes in the middle of the summer, can get very busy.

Thanks Sam-Jo, will have a look to see what is available, Floyd is fascinated by water but wont go in any further than belly deep, however, I cannot swim I am frightened of water, I won't take Floyd near water unless OH is with me, just in case...  daughter is moaning, she is 16, she doesn't want to go walking day after day, bless her, told her the exercise will do her good.

We had our dogs on the beach at Whitby last year, they loved it. There are also lots of beaches in Scotland open to dogs, what about Northumberland, Alnwick direction? Not sure if they close beaches to dogs in summer but I'm sure that some must be open.  I agree Lake District is lovely but it can get v.v. busy in July

We go to Scottish boarders, lovely pet friendly accommodation, people are super. It is a bit cut off, but you can drive to lots of places. I think about 17 acres to roam which is great for the dogs. They have 3 standard poodles themselves along with horse, ducks, chickens, sheep etc.  Fab food in the pub nearby and the locals are very welcoming!

Peak District? There are lots of dog friendly hotels, cottages etc, gorgeous scenary & tons & tons of things to do & not all of them include walking & walking! Downside though...no beach I'm afraid! although there is plenty of lakes/reserviours etc...

Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey? Its beautiful, especially at this time of year and dogs are allowed all year round. It doen't half get busy though (have to get there early :-) unless you live there like I did )! Plus places to eat or have a coffee, the Ship has a beer garden so you can stay out with your dogs.

Hi Jane,

don't know how far south you are but pretty much most of Scotland is dog friendly including beach areas :)

How's Flloyd keeping these days?  Hope he's on the mend (I'm guessing he must be now that you can relax and plan a holiday LOL!)

Snowdonia or if in our part of the world a place called Sandy Balls (do not laugh) they have log cabins and accept dogs right in the new forest.

Thank you all for your suggestions.  I will be on the internet later on this evening.

Hi Teri,

We live in Peterborough.  Floyd I have to report is doing really well, he has never eaten so well on his Sensitivity Control, we all also add a third of a tin of the wet variety, which he absolutely loves, he had one flare up a couple of weeks ago, where he had been off his food and water, he vomitted bile, but whether I did right or wrong I gave him a couple of Rennie, so I didn't rush him straight down the vets, after these he started drinking his water again, and for about 4 days would only have probably just half his food, but is now back to normal, full of mischief.  He has gained weight and started filling out, he weights about 32kg now which I think is about the correct weight for his breed, but everybody who sees him comments on how well he really does look.
I have enrolled him back in his puppy class to try and get him abit more socialised, I don't think he is dog aggressive and Sue the person who runs the class doesn't think he is, he is just very in your face and boisterous and wants to play, just the site of other dogs really excite him and its like you don't exist when there are other dogs about.  When he is at home, he will do anything you ask of him, extremely well behaved, take him outside and he becomes deaf I think...  So still got a few things to work on with him.  But thank you for asking about him.
