wow thats great! Well we have a vhf marine portable radio just in the boat for sos purposes only....no time to chat to yachties we are too busy fishing! :) I have a ship radio (portable) license in my name, but someone suggested it was illegal to use the radio without a qualification?? Is this true please? If he can tell me Id be delighted to know either way, thanks

as long as you only use the radio for mayday calls(channel 16 distress) and not for chatting on channel 6 to other fishermen then it is legal
unless you have a "maritime radio operator certificate of competence" you are not allowed to use the radio for routine traffic.
so you are ok
hope this helps

we have a small 15 foo fishing boat on the north cornwall coast. our terrier is a liability to all who sail with her but she loves it and comes with us every time.....hoping the new boty can start to come with us soon too...although needless to say the hounds do not come aboard!!!

We take Theo who loves sticking his nose into the catch box and chasing the mackeral!
we have not tried Molly as she is obsessed with water and would probably swim to Ireland
did the radio info help?

radio info was perfect thanks! Yes our terrier is the same she barks at every fish coming over the gunwalls and then once its in the bucket she growls at it and tells it off if it moves!! last year she went over board trying to see off a basking shark that was alongside which was a slightly hairraising moment.....they say they only eat krill....but you just never know!!! LOL
