I took my new pom for his evening walk tonight and when I got in one of my cavaliers eyes were blging out, I haven't a clue what has happened.  I have taken her to the emergency vets and they are going to remove her eye around 4am in the morning and the are going to ring me.  She was only here for 1/2 hour with the other dogs and none of them are nasty.  I am absolutely devastated she is only 20 months old.

I have picked Tara up from the vets and she is doing brilliantly, she looks like she has gone a few rounds with amir khan but thats another story.  The vet phoned at 12.45 to say she had come out of the op well and he is certain she had been fighting with one of the other dogs (we can't find any blood or markings on the others)  After I picked her up I took her straight to my own vets who has diagnosed trauma in the second eye but is certain that will heal over the next few days.  she has eaten well and drinking plenty but if any of the other dogs come near her she attacks  apart from my little pom who she still wants to play with unfortunately he runs round the cai and settee and she cant get round because of the buster collar.  So I am very certain that she will make a full recovery, I just wish I knew what had happened..   Thank you for all your good wishes

I know you'll be upset still but the main thing is she's going to be OK and I'm relieved for you that your vet is confident her other eye will heal.

We had a lovely CKCS whose only "vice" was to guard his biscuits from the other dogs if they got too close while he was trying to eat them.
Unfortunatly, he did have a skirmish with one of the Setters who caught his tooth on his eye which caused it to prolapse, end result, he had to have the eye removed. He coped so well though. The fur grew back across the eye socket but he led a normal and happy life. Still guarded his biccies but apart from that he held no grudges!!

Good to hear that she is doing better! 

I'm glad she's home and doing well. If she needs one for awhile I've heard lots of people on the forum say their dogs prefer those moon collars or these. My dog was miserable with a lampshade on.

I have five dogs, four of them being toy breeds with froggy eyes, and have had a few near misses with one or two of their eyes. I'm relieved that your baby has come through the other side. I'm sure she will soon adapt to her situation and her hearing and smell senses will become enhanced as a result! No more sneaky trips to the fridge for you!!!lol

Junior only has one eye we had to have the other removed due to Taz getting him with his fang, long story. Yup you wouldn't even know he had only one eye with the way he acts and how hyper he is. My vet also left in some of the meaty part so to speek so his eye doesn't look hollow it just looks closed- she did a fab job on him. She showed us the eye and said it was going to get tested to make sure he doesn't carry juvinile cateracts which he does not, so thats good :)

You must have been in complete shock to find her like that, it was one of those very unfortunate, unforeseeable things, no-one is to blame it could have happened any time any where, just a fluke happening.

As others have said she will not be affected at all, she will just run, play, eat and live as normal. Dogs are very resiliant, she'll be fine, you just need to get over the shock, I really feel for you.
