I have noticed when picking up my dog poo that it sometimes contains tiny white egg like things - there will be a cluster of fifty or so of them usually about half an inch square - the eggs are white and like tiny grains of rice only about half a millimetre long. Anyway my dog is five months and I had assumed it was something to do with worms so have wormed him twice in the last month. The vet said if it comes back again after worming I may need to send a sample to the lab to see what it is - he has had milbemax and drontal which should kill everything. Anyway yesterday, a week after worming him I notice it again - so I think here we go another trips to the vets is required.

Today it dawned on me that I was noticing these eggs in older poos which had maybe been on the lawn a day or two and I started to think could they be fly eggs/larvea - this seems like a sensible conclusion - I don't want to go sending off samples to be told - hey these are just mini maggots there is nothing wrong with him! Does anyone have any idea. Sorry this is a really disgusting topic!!!

That sounds very much like fly eggs - worm eggs wouldn't be clustered and are only visible using a microscope. Tapeworm segments are bigger and again, not clustered.

So you are not noticing on poo that has come straight out of the dog (sorry to be graphic) but on poo that has been on the lawn for  afew days?
If the egss do not appear in the poo that comes straight from the dog then it sounds like fly eggs being layed afterwards.

Now I feel a right plonker - at least I haven't sent any samples off yet though!!! Poor beggar hasn't had worms at all! His poos are going straight in the bin now! I usually pick them up daily however may miss a day every now again which is when I must be noticing them. Ah well this thread might help anyone else who has wondered!

You can breath a sigh of relief, and after having been wormed twice in a month i am sure he will be wrom free for a good while yet!! :-)

Look on the bright side - now you know there's nothing wrong with him and you've been saved a bill! (And will clear up the poo a bit sooner from now on! ;-) :-D)

I thought my dog had something similar until I realised he had stolen and eaten about 20 dried figs and they were all the seeds!!!  Didn't half give me a shock! 

I can do better that dried fig seeds! I once had boiled beetroot and the skins were in the bin....guess what the poo looked like that cam from the dog that stole the skins!

Oh no - I bet you were seriously worried about him :) Just about to take my completely healthy pup for a walk - I thought it was something he had caught from all the horse poo he eats ewwww!

I did the beet thing once too, just before taking a stool sample in to the Vet.  Gave her a little fright.

You should see poo after your dogs pinched a full packet of rice!!  White rice bits for a week almost, I think she had the whole lot!!

Louis, after hes eaten egg and shell, has loads of 'bits' in his poo. Looks and must feel very scratchy on its way out  :-O
