Topic Dog Boards / General / My mad Zorro!

I went to visit my parents for the weekend. Their garden has a good boundary fence on the left, and on the right is fenced by conifers. In the past I have never been able to loose my dogs in the garden, as they could have escaped under the conifers, or behind the shed. My lovely elderly (82) dad, had gone to great lengths making a wire fence to solve this problem. It fenced off the back of the shed, and he made a two foot wire fence to cover the roots of the conifers. It is fastened to stakes, and he also secured the bottom edge with tent pegs.He must have spent ages on it.
Well I let the dogs out a few times under direct  supervision and everything went well. I then got more confident and allowed them free run of the garden with the kitchen door open, whilst watching them through the window...again, all was well.
UNTIL.............. Lunch on Saturday was a ham salad. Zorro sneaked up on me like a flash and stole my ham off my plate as I was eating it, then dashed off like lightening into the garden, straight towards the wire fence, got his nose under it at high speed, and proceeded to squish himself under the conifers to secape from the garden( presumably so I wouldnt take his ill gotten gains off him). My Mum (80) was squealing hysterically " he's escaping, he'll die!", and gasping for inhalers with stress, my dad was white as a sheet, dashing out as fast as an 82 year old can. I got to Zorro narrowly before Dad, to find just one leg and a tail  sticking through our side, the rest of his body on the side of freedom. I couldnt think of what else to do so I grabbed him firmly by the tail and dragged his naughty self back unceremoniously through to the right side of the fence, where i could see he still had my ham in his mouth :-)
He was brought back into the house and spent some time looking a bit miffed that his escape had been foiled. I was kneeling on the floor doing something and he went to lean on me, but missed me, stumbling over his own feet...at which point my Mum shrieked "he's had a a stroke, he's had a stroke! Its because you pulled his tail!"
Honestly...it was supposed to be a relaxing weekend :-D
