Hello everyone, not a particularly pleasant question but I've just let both dogs out in the garden when I got in and whilst pooing by boy was screaming in pain and running circles round the garden and it now looks like there is part of his intestine sticking out his bottom! He has been to the toilet since but it was very runny and didn't seem to cause any pain and he has been acting himself since. I've got hom an appointment at the vets but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what it could be before I set off in 20 mins?

Glad your going to the vet. Not sure, but it sounds like it could be a prolapsed rectum or something like that.

Thanks for the quick reply killickchick. Thats what my OH said when I phoned him to let him know what had happened and to see if he would be back in time for the appointment. Any idea on how this is treated? Its not something Ive experienced before.

not sure if they stitch it back. Dont let him lick or drag his bottom, he may damage it more,and they will have to remove the damaged tissue. good luck

Pinkbrady, sorry if my posts seemed a bit abrupt. I was cooking dinner (burnt two lots of chips cos I kept coming back to the pc :-D ) Hope your doggie will be ok. Let us know how you got on. :)

Just got back form the vets. By the time we got there everything had gone back to where it should be. The vet felt his tummy and examined him internally and couldn't feel for any obvious signs of damage and thinks he was either passing something too hard or it may be the start of a tummy upset. Whilst examining him she said his anal glands were full so emptyed them and they were very infected - probably too much information but lots of lumpy puss came out so he's on antibiotics for that. Whats most annoying is Zak had shown no signs of his anal glands bothering him otherwise he would have been at the vets much sooner. Anyway at this stage shes not sure if the two are linked but we are to phone her in the morning with an update, if his stools are firm and he is still in pain passing them he will be given a laxative if its a tummy upset that will be treated. hopefully he was passing something too hard that caused it and it was a one off but we shall wait and see!

Hiya, glad everything was ok with him. How strange eh? Wonder if it was just the lining showing as he strained? So glad it isn't anything more serious :)
