Polo has been retching in the last few hours but not brought much up; just white foam and bits of kibble and ham. He's burped a bit too. Could it be a reaction to the ham (he usually has diorrhea after eating it) or something worse? He's full of beans, nothing changed in his actions, just sort of retching but more like a dry cough? The only other thing I can think is that he went to a doggy thing yesterday after a course of AB's could he have caught something? I've not fed him in case it caused bloat or something. Any suggestions; am I just being a fusspot? Thanks

Has he mixed with other dogs in the last few weeks?  Not sure, but my girl has just got over kennel cough and by what you're describing with the dry cough and the foam, it sounds very like it.

Yeah yesterday he went to an agility thing; maybe the AB's lowered his immunity? I hope its nothing more serious than KC, if you know what I mean. It is like a cough rather than that sort of 'washing machine' noise when he's sick.

I think, though not sure, that it takes a bit longer than the next day for kennel cough.  I know that it was at least a week after a show that mine started coughing.  Hopefully there'll be someone more experienced in this along soon to help.

If there was a dog there coughing, could be.  If you're worried, a quick call to your vet wouldn't hurt.  As I said, I'm not an expert and am just going by what you've written.  Hope all's OK.

my dog has the KC at the moment and the first few days are just like you describe.  Mine don't normally produce the amount of phlegm as this but it seems to last for a few days the they are mostly better and this is with the vaccine. My big boy who was due his , but did not get, is worse off and is on AB for his.

The classic appearance for symptoms of KC to be noticed is between 7-10 days of being infected, so very possible that if this is KC it may have been contracted at your vet's :(

If concerned at all or this goes on much longer I'd recommend you have the vet examine your dog in case of another cause.  KC in itself is not a life threatening condition to young healthy animals but can become so if it develops into a secondary infection and is always high risk to very young pups. very elderly dogs and the health of those which is already low due to other medical causes.

Mild coughing or sneezing which is in an otherwise healthy dog can usually be treated by seriously restricting exercise, calming of signs of over excitement, and if necessary a non drowsy cough medicine such as Benolyn or, my recently successful preferred one now, (as appears more pallatable to the dog) Baby Tixylix.

Thanks. I'll watch him and see how it goes. The only other thing I can think of is he ate an old dry chewy treat and seemed to choke a bit. I wont take him to training class tonight, in case it is KC .
