Hi thought I would just post this as maybe it could help others out there that have a litter of pups at the mo with this terrible (for dogs) heat! :)

yesterday I was pulling my hair out wondering why some of my pups would not settle, I told mummy dog to go back in the whelping box as these pups may still be hungry, NO
So I got the three pups out and checked them over, they fell asleeep on my lap!

Anyway, this happened again later on in the day, they are not screaming out so thought they can't be in pain, then it hit me! :)

I put a portable fan in the puppy room, even though the internal door is always open so mum can come and go as she pleases, put the fan on and all pups settle down! THEY WAS TOO HOT!!!

So I now take the heat pad out during the day, open a window very slightly and put the fan on low speed! now I have content puppies!! yipeeee! (for Now)!!!!

Glad that you spotted the problem, pups so young can not cool themselves down, or regulate their temperatures either way and do need our intervention. Well done! And a good point for others who do not realise. :-)

Yes I put fan on and only use heatpad at night when we are lucky enough to have warm weather like now

My 2 year old was from a 'heatwave litter'. Her breeder used to freeze bottles of water, and the pups would lie across them with very happy looks on their faces.

I have done similar with a sheet of chillerz, frozen them wrapped them in a hand towel and made a cool pad for puppies to lie on.

yes we had a litter born on the hottest day of the year near 2 years ago it was just too hot for everyone mum, puppies and ME you just have to be careful not to let the fan blow direct onto the puppies keep a thermometer on the whelp box and keep an eye on it.
Also if you have a window open make sure its not draughty and flies cat get in and lay eggs on the puppies .

by 11 days you shouldnt need a heat pad at all- unless its winter of course

Lily Mc, re: photo, I could just pick the whole bunch up and take them home beauuuuuuuutiful!  I am also a fan of the frozen bottle for this weather, very effective.

Gorgeous photo!  I was lucky that mine were born in the winter, so didn't have that problem! 

Not sure of you finances but a air con unit on very very low would do the trick.  They are about £150-£250 for a 1200 BTU one.
