I thought my dog Rudi had a small seed on the bridge right above his nose about two weeks ago. It was grey and shiney and looked sort of odd, so I flicked it a couple of times with my finger. Eventually it fell off and I looked at it against a white tissue - I still could not make out if it was a seed or something else - so I squished it and it was grey mush. Never saw any legs - but then again it did not seem like a normal seed either.
I thought nothing of it until a week later when I notice a lump on the bridge of Rudi's nose. It looked like a small doughnut with a hole in the middle and started to "weep". A couple of days later the vet took a look at it and said it looked like a reaction to a tick bite. He said it would take weeks for it to look normal again.
I think the tick must have bit and then died because of the Frontline. Gosh, I just switched to Advantix because the product info says ticks and fleas are repelled - sounds like it does not work as well as claimed. (I also spotted a flea on my other dog - and this was less than one month after I used Frontline.)
Anyway - reading on the web it said that if the tick's head is left in the skin eventually the dog's body will get rid of it. I suspect though that this may require a reaction around the site of the bite where the swelling/infection pushes the head out, like Rudi's.
