hiya ,hope one of you clever people out there can help answer a question for me ,we are talking dogue de bordeaux ,to breed a black mask does 1 of the parents have to be a black mask or can a red mask sibling carry the gene for a black mask ,as my friend says 1 parent has to be a black mask.

Your friend is correct. According to Prof Triquet's book - which is a must for all interested in Dogues, black is dominant and red is recessive, so to get black 1 parent must have a black mask. The black gene is not present unless in a black masked Dogue.
