My son and girlfriend took Meg out this afternoon - a hot sunny one here. First they had her in the car while his gf went into work briefly - they knew about keeping her cool etc - I think my son stayed with her. Then they were down at the river and she spent a long time chasing stones and sticks that some boys kept throwing for her. She did not swim - she will not get right into the water. However she must have drunk quite alot of river water. She has come home and has been restless. She is now lying at my feet under the table. She has come up here several times by herself - this is her bolt hole when there is thunder. I gave her her food - she had been home for about an hour and put some bits of cold left over sausage with it. She has actually left it - unheard of for her. Is she just exhausted by excercise and heat do you think - or should I be looking for anything else. Just looked at her she is not relaxing although her eyes are heavy - she normally konks out and sleeps. She hasn't drunk anything since coming home either.
Could she have swallowed some of the stones the boys threw for her? She may have swallowed them along with the pond water. Maybe she is feeling bloated with the water. You haven't said shes panting a lot so it doesn't sound like heatstroke, she would be agitated too. Sorry I can't help - hope she is better soon. xx
No she is not panting just restless but I have just had a chat with my son's girlfriend and she said that the tide was coming in so the water may have been quite salty. As we were talking Meg went through and ate her food. That is a relief. She has gone out in the back garden now so in the right place for the runs!!
She seems back to normal now - sleeping quietly and drinking normally - even getting up and having a woof when she heard something. I will have to be careful those 2 don't get her too wound up and exhausted when they take her out again.
