I have tried raw tripe, freeflow, from the butchers and my dogs turned their noses up at it everytime they tried it.I've got some white tripe from the butchers and am going to try cooking it this evening even though it will probably stink the house out.Could anyone advise me on how long to cook it please? Thanks

oh dear,!! :)
I have tried cooking tripe before, and it made my WHOLE house STINK for days!
I cooked it for about 10-15 mins I think like I would be browning of mince before adding a sauce.
Good luck with the cooking! I would open all windows! :) :)

I sometimes cook green tripe, I do it in the microwave. I have never smelt anything like it, it is DISGUSTING and I can't bring myself to use the microwave for anything else now!!! Freeflow tripe spread out on a plate only takes a few minutes to 'zook'.
Our old dog wasn't keen on raw tripe to start with, but he soon got used to it, he simply had his meal removed if he turned his nose up - amazing how they get the taste for something if they know they'll go hungry! ;)

I boiled the tripe in a little water for 5 mins, turned it abit to cook for another 5 mins.No smell whatsoever,or very minimal.I guess thats the difference between green and white tripe.Just after i turned it,i went into the garden to see to the dogs barking at the neighbours and completely forgetting about the tripe continued with some digging i'd started earlier until half an hr later when the smell of burning reached my nostrils. The saucepan is ruined and the smell of burning in the house is terrible. So yes,i agree, cooking tripe makes a terrible smell!
White tripe is usually boiled in milk - my mum used to love it! But I could never bring myself to try it, although I'm told it really is delicious.

LOL Thats so funny :) :)
Seriously, glad the saucepan was the only thing ruined. BTW Try boiling rabbit for the dog - that stinks the house out too :(

Theres little point feeding bleached tripe, theres not that much in it. Green tripe has loads of nutrients from the contents of the cows stomach (and we then bleach it for human food as thats gross)...
So cooked white tripe is going to have even less nutritional value... so really... why bother!

That's what i was going to ask. White, scolded, bleached tripe found in human grade butchers is pretty much void of any nutritional benefits. The benefits dogs get from green tripe will not be found in the white stuff, and the smell and taste that dogs go nuts for will be missing from white tripe.
Also one of the biggest benefits of green tripe are the enzymes it contains, these are easily destroyed by heat.So to those who cook your green tripe, you're cooking away the best and most important stuff.

Thanks,i didn't know that. The white tripe was also quite expensive.
Which tripe is best to get.The forthglade small frozen blocks or freeflow, these are the only types my pet shop stock. My dogs haven't liked either of these,i should probably try again,or is there a better type to look for?
Thanks

I use the freeflow green tripe, raw, my dogs wont eat it straight from the fridge which is a big no no anyway as I have been told.
So I leave it covered up for a few hours in the kitchen side before I serve it to them xx

One of mine turned up her nose at the freeflow, I gave her the 'Butchers' tinned tripe and she loved it. She now eats the freeflow with no problems.

Thankyou.
Has anyone considered cooking the tripe on a camping stove or a barbeque...a least outside it wouldnt stink your house out for so long!!!
