i noticed today one of my litter has a kinked tail is there anything a vet can do to correct it and will it cause problems for them as adults also will i be able to sell apuppy with a kinked tail it is only the one of them as i have checked the rest and their fine any advice appreciated

Should not cause any trouble unless it is predictive of some other problems.

A kinked tail is perfectly fine, no need to straighten it out just leave it to grow.
I believe from reading book of the bitch which I got 2 days ago! It says kinked tails are fine for health but if it develops beyond a simple kink then a quick trip to the vets might be a good idea as it can effect the spine but very unlikely to happen :)

Do you know I had never thought it was the tail that effected the spine, I had always thought that the fact of a kinked tail may be the outward manifestation of a spinal problem. Goes to show you live and learn unless I have misunderstood.

suppose it depends on the breed but certainly in my breed its been traditional not to rear kinked tails....although they occur so rarely these days i expect most would sell them just as pets. I had one once and with careful manipulation many times a day as a tiny pup, its barely noticable now in the adult hound.

we had one pup with a kinky tail, he was sold to a pet only home . as long as its not idicative of a larger issue its fine, just a wee bit of a fault but i don;t think your pups are heading for show homes anyway?

don't stress, it'll be fine! how are they all doing? how old are they now?

do you think it will straighten out a bit as he grows it has only been noticeable for a few days but is quite a large kink half way down his tail ill take him to the vets to be checked anyway but there generally useless

it might, it might now, depends on the pup really

they are 3 weeks old today and doing great coming on leaps and bounds and are up and walking about growling ect we had them out in the garden in their cage today as it was lovely and warm (shaded obviously) and both my girls thought it was fab as they could play without one or the other running in everytime they heard a noise from them they could just have a quick check and carry on lol and the pups liked it to i have a question aswell when you first start to wean pups how often should they be fed the first few days/weeks
