My 18 month ridgeback has over night come up in a rash of little lumps down one side of him. He's not scratching or in any discomfort or doesnt seem to be. Could it possibly be a nettle rash? Would have thought if it were fleas or bugs then he'd be scratching like mad? There must be at least 30 little lumps? Anyone got any ideas? I did give him a very small amount of butchers dog canned tripe last night for the first time - added to his usual dry food. Maybe its an allergy? Having said there is no ill effects stomach wise.

It could be an allergic reaction to something in your home and/or garden which he has laid down on? (particularly being on one side alone) Nettles don't appear to bother mine but then again my breed has a long thick double coat so perhaps not the best comparison with a RR.

If it was an allergic reaction - is it just a question of letting it run its course? I think if it is then it must be something he rolled on or brushed past on a walk rather than the garden as presumably he would have got it before now if it was something close - so hopefully it should just go?

Personally as it's not currently bothering him I'd give it a couple of days and see whether it clears. If it does start to irritate him then it's better he be checked by the vet in case there is a medical cause (parasites can be microscopic!). It may be something very mild which requires little or no meds, possibly just a short course of Piriton or similar.
If it were one of mine (RRs too :) ) I would give him an antihistamine a day for a couple of days. It sounds like a reaction to something he's touched - RRs don't have a lot of coat to protect them.
