I am looking to insure my 15 week old pup, there are so many pet insurers to choose from that its starting to get confusing.  Can anyone recommend a good insurer or give advice on which ones to stay away from etc?

Avoid anything underwritten by E&L, and also any policy that only covers conditions for one year and not 'for life'. Diabetes, for example, is a lifetime condition, so you want to know that the insurance will still pay after a year, and that you won't be stuck.

PetPlan is one of the ones that vets most like to deal with - they're not the cheapest, but they're very good at paying out, and that's what matters.

i am insured with directline and sainsburys, both been no problems, but i would recommend sainsburys as they are slightly cheaper and quicker at paying out. both do lifelong policies which is what i have - excellent customer service.
i have found pet plan to be one of the most expensive

I am with Tesco and they will pay my vets direct so I don't have to pay 1st then claim it back.  They seem quite good value but you get £4000 per illness and some will cover more, but you usually have to pay more in the premium.

Yep, I'm with petplan, they do pay out very quickly and our vets are happy to deal with them direct :)

Ditto E&L i spent 4 months trying to get a payout for an op. Now we are Petplan dearer but the cover is a lot better.

i am with sainsburys and if you signup via a website quidco.co.uk you get cash back, think  got 40 pounds back plus sainsburys sent me a 20 pound voucher which basically made my first year of insurance half price

im with direct line, not had to deal with them yet, but they seem fine so far, and have heard reasonably good reports about them. ditto jeangenie, look for continous cover, not 12monthly, you wont get re insured if any problems occur such as epilepsy or diabetes, and will only last until end of year.

I'm with petplan and even though i'm paying more each month than other policies i am happy with it as it gives cover each and every each and i have unlimited costs on each and every condition each year.
All i have to do is pay the first £90 for each condition each year.

With my breed there is a high chance that they will suffer from serious illness and i'm not sure that £4000 a year would cover the bills if he ever fell down with anything (touch wood he won't).

You have to weigh up the pros and cons on this.
I pay £44p/m for my policy. Its a lot but in my eyes worth every penny.
If you can find a policy that is unlimited in vets bills and covers each condition for life and its cheaper than petplan i would go for that.
