Hi Sami,

Can't help I'm afraid but thought I'd reply as can see you're obviously worried. Don't really know anything about breeding, but pretty sure it's impossible to grow an extra teat! The only thing I can think of is mastitis...? Hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon.

If you are that worried you had better call a vet, people on here wish to be helpful but only have what you describe to make a guess as to what may be wrong.  Did you count her nipples before the litter was born, there seems to be no set number of teats on a dog all mine have a different number so I would not assume that one you had not noticed before is a new one, this would be impossible as it would be attached to a mammary gland and they do not grow over night.

New teats can't be created where there wasn't one before, but there might have been a very under-developed supernumerary one there already which has now been activated. Get your vet to check.

its more like a huge spot but they keep suckling on it and dont seem to be whining as if there is nothing coming out,

i didnt want to ring the vets as i wasnt sure if it was necessary , and i might have been over reacting,

seems a silly question but have you tried getting milk out of it?

no but the babies seem to be doing a good job of it, as i say they seem content on it, and dont try to move,

just tried to get milk out and nothinghappened, however the spot seems  to be split into two and one half where they suck is just red and raised, and the other half has a pea sized lump in it,

It's not a new teat. They are there from the start. Sometimes the very first in the row can be very small and undeveloped, but they are definitely there to begin with.
I'd say the pups have started to suckle in a special place, and then kept on doing so, as that part has been swollen and raised. This sometimes happens. I always remove them as soon as I see this, as I suppose it is painful for mum. And a bad bruise and soreness can develop, which you don't want.
Often pups suckle just for comfort, and don't mind if there's  milk coming or not.
