Have anyone used those plants that you can roll out like a carpet and then just water instead of planting seeds? Hope that made sense... Was wondering cause I was thinking on getting some. I have a flower troff on my front window and was thinking it would work better...

Do you mean sedums?  I know that they're used on roofs (or is that rooves, it's late & I'm only doing 5 year old spellings at the moment)  Haven't used them personally but the school where I used to live has them on top of their roof.

No MADDOG this is like a roll of matting with seeds impregnated on it. When you lay it and water it, the seeds germinate et voila! instant flower bed. Haven't used it myself Dollface, like to chose my own seeds and put them where I want, but Its a brilliant idea and really easy. Have fun.

Nooooo, I never knew that.  Oooh how pagan for a C of E school LOL.  To be fair it's an eco school that's probably why they've used it.

Never heard of this matting of seeds, would it work for a meadow effect or are we talking proper flower bed type flowers?

You can buy them from Wiggly Wigglers (I Think) and just lay them down and water them. I tend to also use big pots, last layer i plant tulips, next I plant daffs and finally crocus. They all start off with crocus in early spring, next daffs, finally tulips. (Or could put in a hyasinth (cant spell)) and leave that one planted after two years plat them in the garden and replace.
I then do my baskets (moss is not eco friendly as there is not a lot of moss around) and then get the whole lot in and plant again for spring next year.
I can also move me pots around to have smellies nearer my bedroom window so when I open it I get nice smellies. Also recommend a herby bit that is planted with rosemary, marjorum etc it attracts bees and if you run your fingers through it UMM LOOvely in an evening o the patio, whilst the dogs chase around and dig up the lawn.

I think you can buy it in different varieties e.g. annuals or cottage garden that sort of thing. I've usually seen it for sale in those little brochures that come through the door, not sure about garden centres, might be sold online try 'instant flower bed' or 'instant garden'. The mat can be cut to size for pots or troughs or left whole and laid on the flower bed.

I am thinking I will give it a try and see how they work- don't have much to lose except a lil money and time- but I think they will look nice outside my window :) Just have to remember to water them everyday lol
