I know absesses can appear at any time from many causes but I must say I was shocked at how quickly a huuuuuge lump appeared on the side of our young lab's neck yesterday.  He hasn't eaten anything he shouldn't have or chewed anything which my vet says is the normal cause.  Perhaps an insect sting that I didn't see occur.

I thought I was struggling to get his collar on, the large tuft of hair might have been a dead giveaway if it weren't for the fact that he's been moulting for England & he's an odd looking lab at the best of times bless him.

He's not bothered by it, still eating/pooing/barking ;-)

Vet has given him a week of antibiotics, just wondered if anyone's had this occur in their dog before?

Yes.  One of mine had a bad reaction to the Delvosteron injection and ended up with a golf ball size absess between her shoulder blades.  It ended up having to be drained and left open for me to flush out every night!  Eeew!

Now you come to mention it, his father had that reaction to his innoculation.  I was horrified when I went out to this poor 10 week old (approx) pup to find a lump the size of half a tennis ball.  No, tell a lie, it was where he had his microchip so he would have been around 17 weeks.  Never had that problem with micro chips before, it did go down on it's own though.

Well, we'll just have to see what happens to this poor lad.  Bless him, it's a good job he has a major crush on our female vet ;-)

You don't think it could be a grass seed do you?  Horrible little things!  Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Don't know, that's about the only thing it could be as he goes out on a lead the whole time at the moment (retraining him).  It seems to have gone down a little this morning well sort of, it's like it's melted towards his eye (it's under his ear) - certainly not as round & solid as yesterday, let's hope the antib's work.
