For a cocker sized bitch expecting 9 or 10 pups what size  whelping box would you buy ? 96cm x 96cm or 140cm x 140 cm. The boxes are not the disposable type where there are more sizes to choose from .
Thanks

I have just had a litter of 5 (Same size breed), they are in a 90 x 90cm box, but it is now getting quite crowded in there with mum and 5 pups at 1 week old, I would say that the 96 x 96cm should be ok for a couple of weeks, but if you have room for it I would go for the bigger box.  I got a 4' square playpen and wanted the box to go in it, but there isn't much room around it, when the pups are bigger though they will just have the run of the playpen and the whelping box will come in useful when I am cleaning the pen out.

I've got cockers and 96 x 96 is plenty big enough, they are only in it for the first few weeks anyway, once they are mobile it's time to change them over to a pen.  My girl looked completely lost in her whelping box!

Here she is trying out her new whelping box http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/crazycockers/Whelpingbox422008003.jpg - hope it's ok to post the link.....

I don't have pups, this was at the start of the year.

Removed lid of course and then built up the sides and back. Added vetbed and a heating mat.

My bitches are about 46cm to shoulder and my box is 110 x 110, big enough for mum to stretch out comfortably and 10 pups long enough til they try to climb out. Remember that the addition of pig rails reducues the amout of space for mum to lie down.

I would go for the first size for my breed as you don't want the box too big as they will get lost.
