We took our dog our to the beach yesterday and he was fine.  Bit of off lead on the beach and then we walked - back to car, home and all okay.  Then last night around 9pm he was laying on the floor and got up, but he seemed a bit awkward getting up - it was as though he had cramp... but then I noticed he was limping.  I checked all his leg and he seemed okay - but still was limping a bit, it was his back right hand leg.  He didn't moan or cry as I was pressing his leg.  He has never had a problem before (he is 4).  We went to the vet on Saturday for his yearly booster and they gave him a check up.  I thought if he had hurt himself on the beach, we would have noticed and he would have been uncomfortable when it happened but we got home from their about 4pm and this wasn't until 9ish last night.  I will check his pad again and see how he goes today and then I may need a trip to the vet, unless anyone has any suggestions?

my staff does this after being at the beach as it is the only time she digs and she swims loads.  It wears off gradually and it just like stiffness in humans from over exertion when not used to it.

let us know how you get on.

My girl ended up with two poisonous paws from our beach last year.  We have a shale type mound to climb before the large area of sand & I am assuming that she either walked on something undesirable or cut them on the shale & then they got infected.  Admittedly she didn't go lame, just licked at her wounds a lot.  But then she does spend half her life in a lampshade for various ailments due to her activities ;-)

Hi, he did seem better yesterday - but he drives me mad to go out - so I did walk him but only for 15 minutes.  I kept my back door shut and only took him into the garden on the lead (otherwise he bounds about out there) - will see how he is today.  A Friend also said that may be the sand had caused his pad to be a bit uncomfortable.  Will see how he goes...
