My goldie is expecting her 3rd litter, (no problems with previous litters) She is on day 66 and showing no sign of going into labour. She's behaving as though life is quite normal, no stress at all.  She has babies which I can feel moving, but probably only 2-3 as she isn't very big. Went to the vet this morning and they want me to leave her until Friday morning and if nothing has arrived my then give her a c section. She has milk in her teats, but her temperature has gone back up to normal again. I'm really worried about leaving her so long, but don't know what else I can do. Has anybody else had this problem.

My vets wouldn't do anything until the 71st day and we never lost a pup in the times that we followed this rule.  If your bitch is happy, healthy, no discharge and you can still feel pups moving etc. I would think you would be fine.

Maybe a couple of car rides over some sleeping policemen may help, it's helped me over the years!

I would not leave her that long.
my bitch showed signs of nesting at 60days. After 24hours I got a little worried. Phone the vet they assured me not to worry, not a problem. They would leave her until 70 days.
I was not happy, phoned every day they said, bring her down, but! we will not do anythink until 70days. She  just layed and settled down again, I was concerned as the whites of her eyes were red so there was a problem.
On the 66day I went to the vets there was no discharge. I was, by now stressed and angry. They checked her over and said they are not in the birth channel she is not ready.
They were going to send  us home. I got quite angry. So they fetched an older vet in and he gave her an internal and said she is not ready. We are now 66 days.
On removing his hand there was green discharge on the glove. Then! he said I will keep her in and do a C/section, If there is a problem we will remove her womb as well, I was devastated. When going down to collect her, I asked to see the pups, they were dead. They were all normal, just a little large, if they had done the c/section three days earlier we would have had our pups alive. This experience cost £500.00 and a upset, stressed dog.
Vets do not know everythink like women we are all diffrent.
Go by your instinct, you know your dog.

She'll hopefully start on her own now you've got her booked in - hope all goes well.  My bitch is due Saturday but has been keeping me on my toes all day today acting strange and wanting lots of reassurance.  Maybe I've a sleepless night ahead of me too!

Glad you got her booked in. My mum who breeds paps had a similer experiance with vets putting off doing a section . Once they agreed to do it they found the pups had broke through the abdomin & dying. After doing hysterectomy and sewing her up we brought her home with a 50/50 chance of survival due to poisoning etc. Happy to say she pulled through and apart from gaining a few pounds shes doing well
You know your dog , go by gut instint i always think.

As shown above each bitch is different and if she's showing signs which are clear to you of distress as the other poster has put then get her seen to sooner.

My girls were all fine and pups were still kicking etc, so it's never been a worry, but of course not all pregnancies are the same.

Can feel babies moving and mums quite content, might not be many babies, but that really doesn't matter, so I'm feeling hopeful. I'll be so so relieved when it's all over.

All very stressful. she had one little girl. Mums fine thank goodness and the little one seems to be doing okay. The worst bit is that she keeps crying and rushing out into the garden where she was digging last week, I think she's looking for more puppies.  I was up most of the night with her trying to settle her and she seems much better today.

For anyone out there who are thinking of breeding to make some fast money, don't  I can honestly say that this little baby has turned out to be very expensive, but thats breeding for you. I train in obedience and only breed when I want a new little one. I'm just relieved that Mums doing well. It was a bit scary at times

this happen to me four years ago i bought the dad over from sweden he stay for 6 months i show him,fed,insurced him too,
he went to wispa which it was her 3 litter she had 1 puppie only but lucky she had it naturaly.but i did enjoy have the dog over we had great fun in the show ring,

Seem to have another problem now. It's day 2 and the pup hasn't put any wait on. She's feeding well, but looks pretty much the same as she did on Friday when I brought her home. I'll take her back to the vet in the morning and have her checked out.

When my girl had a c-section for a singleton pup last year, her milk didn't drop down properly until day 3. When you say she 'looks' the same as Friday,  Are you actually weighing her daily?  Maybe you can't see the weight going on.......as long as she's not losing then she's probably getting enough and hopefully mums milk will come in very soon.

She seems to have milk when I squeeze her nipples, she did before the C Section. I weighed the puppy at birth and she was 14 1/2oz and she now weighs 14oz. Just collected some formula milk from the emergency vet so I'm going to try this .

also sometimes first few days pups dont always gain weight BUT is pup losing weight?

If she is drinking and pooing, she is getting some milk. C/section can mess the feeding up a bit, I would give the bitch (MOM) some formula as well.

I would avoid giving the pup any formula, she has lost very little and if she doesn't suckle then there won't be milk.  Just make sure the pup suckles often, and the bitch has as much liquids as you can get into her.  I always soak lactating bitches food to the maximum so they have to take on the water.

Been to the vet this morning, the vet agreed that the puppy was feeling empty even though she's on the teat most of the time. She's told me to feed the puppy Formula milk as that is  probably the only answer, Chloe; the mum has gone a bit neurotic, she always is a bit highly strung, but she keeps whining and is very unsettled at times. She had an oxitcin injection to try and get the milk going, plus some blood tests to check her calcium, (which came back as normal) but I think I'm going to have to resign myself to feeding this little girl every 2-3 hours for the next 3-4 weeks.

well if this is going to help this puppy survive then go for it, i would(easier said than done)

Don't give up on Mum, When Merlot had her singleton her milk did not come in for three/four days then it came in with a vengance and little Solo was as fat as butter!!! Have a search for "Singleton Puppies" and you should find some info.
All the best, in a couple of weeks hopefully you will wonder what you worried about!

It's always best to persevere with mum and just top up a little if you really think the pups not getting enough.  Hope all goes well.  Know what it's like to have a small litter going to full term!
