Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Can you??
- By jonelle [gb] Date 18.05.08 22:04 UTC
Hi all,
Ive been feeding raw for two and half years now.
My question is,is it ok to feed raw tongue, as ive been given a whole one but ive never come across it in raw diets.
If so is it classed as a muscle meat?
Many thanks.

Jonelle.

I don't raw feed but am interested in physiology and yes, the tongue is a muscle and I see no reason why you should not feed it. In the wild animals will often eat the tongue and internal organs before eating what we would consider 'meat'.

Think, as in any kind of feeding, one should introduce new food slowly and in small amounts. So serve some and freeze some.

I'd class it as muscle meat too.  Never thought to ask my butcher for a tongue, but I will now.  I get a couple of ox hearts, they are enormous and last ages once they been chopped up.

I also feed BARF and have done for several years.

Good advice :-) If I am ever in doubt as I was when we moved up here and started including pheasant, venison & rabbit in their diet, I did exactly that. :-)

The tongue is a muscle, the only one in the human body that is not attached at both ends.

You can feed ANY part of an animal to a dog, unfortunately not everyone can get access to it all.

Oooh, there is a great quiz question.  If I am ever asked which muscle in the body isn't attached at both ends in a pub quiz I'll be a winner.  Cheers tohme.

With pleasure Astarte ;-) but you will of course be in competition with the 'hairy ones' - and not of course....expect any special favours...but I am open to bribery......at certain times of the month :-D :-D
