Can any let me know when I can start taking my dog out after kennel Cough, She has not coughed at all for 2 days and is getting very frustrated at not going for walks .

We were at one time told 5 weeks but I now think 3 weeks is probably ok if you avoid other animals and the dog is no longer coughing.

I was told they could mix with other dogs a week after the last cough. So if you can walk somewhere away from other dogs for the next few days you should be ok to resume usual waks in about 5 days.

I was at a talk by the vaccine manucacturers and they said if it is full blown Bortalella the dog has, then, one the dog stops coughing it can still infect other dogs for up to three months.

I am starting to think that maybe she has not had kennel cough.

The story so far at skc, 4 days later she becomes unwell being sick retching and bring up flem and all her tummy contents.
Took her to the vets who said kc she was given antibotics and anti imlflammorty injections and sent home with a course of antibotics incase off secondary infection.

after 5 days of being unwell she is fine no coughing just back to her normal self.

would kc not last longer?????

kc can last any where between a few days and a few weeks, generally about 5-7 days, my pup only coughed for around 3 days, generally antibiotics are given to prevent secondary infection, mixed opinions on whether they should be given or not, i gave them to my pup due to his age. generally if the vets said it was kc it probably will be, its very easy to diagnose, and has a sound all to its own! can be worrying the first time you hear it though. we always tell clients a week to 10 days after last cough they are fine to mix, on rare occasions they can harbour it longer, but its unrealistic to keep your dog isolated for months, i went with 10days, my puppy was 13 weeks, and i really wanted to get along with his socialising.
