Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / chewing lead at end of walk
- By selsey [gb] Date 10.10.02 20:08 UTC
Becksie (BC) is now 5 months and I have had a lot of help from you all with you. However, she has just started to chew her lead on her return walk from the field. I know it is obviously because she doesn't want to go back on the lead or finish the walk - but she actually get quite angry - if I say no or pull it away from her mouth she starts to growl at me even if I am really firm we end up having a scene. Any ideas - I have tried giving her a stick to carry and treats etc.

Thanks
Linda

Bingo bites his lead and your hand, not hard or aggressively, but he does it when he is tired and had enough.

Try spraying your lead with bitter apple if that alone doesn't work every time your dog grabs it put her in a down and praise.I have read that you can also take the lead on either side of the mouth and using your wrist snap it down and out in a " J " motion, and lots of praise as soon as she lets go. Do which ever works the best for you and her. I have found the bitter apple worked for me. Good luck and hope this helps.
