any advice please!!
our bitch is 64 days today , she started shivering at 10.35 last nite i been up all nite with her shes been panting shivering digging her bedding almost hourly then lays down and sleeps i thought at one point she was crying a little " here we go i thought" but shes still eating and now seems like normal the shivering has stopped she still heavy breathing a little but no more than usual,
anyone else had same with their dog? she seems fine now like shes not going to have them at all but she was very restless on and off thu the nightnow shes just had a play in the garden and seems fine she has taken a teddy to her bed ands sleeping soundly, any advice please ,

just like my baby to keep me waiting like this she's loving it all the fussing will let you know how it goes , best pop a few more pro plus and have me big pot of coffee ,

dont want to be a pain sorry but , is it normal to take this long ? (im gettin worried again) my girls still sleeping sound she's been for a little walk tonite had some boiled chicken and banana(its all she'll eat)
ands in her birthing box looking as sound as a bell!,
my last litter was 15 years ago and was 9 wonderful healthy rotties, it was a one nighter , nothing like this time, our EBT dont look like she's ready to give the pups up anytime soon now , and after last nite i could av swore that she was on her way, she wernt pushing or nothing but just panting and shivering in between sleeping and restlessness , shes not even doing that now,
i wondered if she is conserving her energy for the BIG moment , while watching silly bugger me sleepless and droppy eyed looking over her,

lol probably they do like to keep you guessing dont they and look at you as if to say for gods sakes woman what is the big deal my OH said that our girl was digging the night before she had them she also chewed her whelping box and then no other signs she had her 1st one at 3:45 pm the next day

Have you been taking her temp as that should indicate when she is ready.  The Book of the Bitch explains it - or you could search the posts on here for further info.

hold up i just looked in and theirs watery looking gellyfied stuff in her bed its clear tho no sign shes pushing tho not a pant or a shiver tho,

its about two mugs full not just little bit

any updates?? Do you have any puppies now??? :)

Hi all sorry for not replying sooner ,
what a night and day we'v had , my girl had her first baby boy at 7.30 yesterday morning and by 9 we could see their were going to be problems i called our vet as the labour seemed to stop but she still seemed big like more to come so we got to vets x ray showed one VERY LARGE pup, she was given a jab to help her push that worked great my girl did well but the pup seemed stuck so she had a cesarean saidly the pup woz dead but our girl came thu great , we brought her home at 6 last night mum and pup doing fine now poor lil pup hadnt seen his mummy allday but both have bounded well shes a great mum i new she would be and the EBT got a bad rep of not being good mums but i got the exception here.
we see the pup that died he was BIG VERY VERY BIG!!!!, so sad ,
good job i had saved a bit of cash up aint it, as i joked to my hubby last night trying to lighten the mood(he's still getting over the shock of the cost as we wernt insured silly me i know)
i told him to look at it this way , we just bought another EBT yesterday only this puppy was £6.79p dearer, than his mummy cost us, it will be a tight month but anyway i like beans on toast lol,

Congrats on the new arrival!! Insurance wouldn't have paid out in this case as it was breeding related so you were lucky you had a little put away and the c-sect was in normal working hours and not at 2am on BH!! Enjoy your baby :-)

his a lively little one this pup and his mums SO great , in past when we had litters the mums have been very clumsy treading on pups but our girl steps in her bed around her baby ands so good very gentle, thanks to all for your surrport and advice xx,

Insurance doesn't cover whelping, so wouldn't have paid out anyway.

Hi their mum and pup doing fine,
well mums acting a bit wierd really can anyone explain this she is SO possesive over EVERTHING toys ,she's put them ALL in her bed Even things she never normally bothered with ,(our poor rottie cant have nothing)
then i get up today and she's got the tv remote, my RAC letter the box of tissues and all this was on my side table in the frontroom near her birthing box she has taken all things off table and they in the bed with her and pup, she keeps nipping her pup and he really yelps is this normal,
she has just flew at our rottie and he's in the passage doing nothing and not even near her im just a bit worried she may do this to my son whos 10 years old,
i understand shes being protective over her puppy ,(and the sky remote and my tissues and ALL the toys in the house) in the  garden last nite she went round collecting up every ball and rubber toy and one by one she brought them into her bed,
any ideas on how to deal with this ?

I had my bitch whelp in my bedroom and kept her completely seperate from the other 2.They didn't see each other for 3 weeks. You need to allow her privacy and keep your other dog away from her. That would then mean they both can have their toys and neither is too stressed. The last thing you need at the moment is your other dog taking exception to your bitches possessiveness.
My daughter whos 9 was not allowed to touch the pups until 2 wks old and not allowed in the whelping room (bedroom!) at all alone. She became involved when the pups were brought downstairs into the dining room at 5 weeks. I'm 90% sure that Lily would have been fine with Amy being in the room but I wasn't prepared to put her in a situation where she felt she needed to defend her litter for whatever reason.

I would be taking all those extra things off your girl and putting them away where she cant get them,  if the puppy goes near one of her 'possesions'  she may well do him permanent damage.  If she is nipping him now, it sounds like she is very confused over what she should be doing.  And who she should be protecting.  Watch her very carefully with the baby, or all could end in disaster.  Dont mean to be doom and gloom, but better to be safe than sorry,  Is it possible she may have an infection which is causing her to act up, if you are in any doubt get her to the vets for a check up, 

Thanks for that yeah she had her check up with vets today and they said same as you minimom,
and a spoke to my breeded who who didnt hold back about the doom and gloom either of what may happen,
im upset shes turned this way shes such a loving caring dog but hormones getting better of her i think ,
will be watching carfully, just wont trust her yet,
and i wont leave her alone with pup thats what iv been advised also  ,

Aw, she's getting a bit over keen on the puppy / toy guarding! Hope all goes well and she relaxes soon. :-)
