my girls pups are 10 days old and she keeps leaving them and sitting with us the box is in the front room anyway but she only seems to go in there when made to for the first few days if they made a noise she was there now she ignores them do you think she just wants me time or should i be making her stay with them more they dont howl the whole time shes out just when she first leaves them and then they are ok they are all gaining weight well and anearly all are over 1lb in weight apart from the little on who weighs 10 0z but even he is gaining weight well

That sounds normal to me.  I know my girls dont stay with them all the time at that age.  If they wasnt happy they would be letting you know ;)

After the first few days my bitch was the same.  We had to force her to go in and feed them every couple of hours.  Once she was in she would clean them up, but would totally ignore them when they cried.  We obviously had to do this through the night aswell.  Once I put her in the box, she would only settle and feed them if I was stroking her or her head was on my lap.  I also started weaning them early, just after their eyes opened, as I was so worried she would refuse to go in at all. Weighing them every day, reassured me that they were getting enough milk. Hope your girl isn't as bad a Mother as mine.  :-(
Good luck Sam

yep she has started ignoring them now they were howling to be fed so we have moved the box to where she used to sleep before whelping so she cant leave them and we will see how she goes if she gets miserable then ill have to move her back again

My girl did this. I had to physically pick her up and put her in the box to feed them as she just took no notice. She was totally devoted for the first 10 days or so and then she just thought, thats it,you wanted the pups, you look after them!LOL! I think it is fairly normal. Some bitches are just more devoted than others.

This is normal which is why I bring the pups downstairs at aroudn the 2 week mark so the bitch can not be torn between her pups and her human family.
