Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Affix Question
- By Kasshyk [gb] Date 27.05.08 13:17 UTC
Hi All,
Following on from a conversation last night with a friend, if 2 puppies (with same affix A) are bred by their registered owners (not affix owners), can the resulting pups be registered as affix A? Hope this makes sense!

If the owner of the affix has one of the pups (assuming that both parents carry this affix) they can then use their affix in front of the registered name, as per normal.

From the little that i know about this i think the affix owner has to be the registered owner of dog to apply their affix........... My affix is in joint names but the Bitch was only in my name, we had to re register the bitch in joint names to apply the affix to her litter
Hope this makes sense??????

Not quite 'registered as Affix A'. What would happen is the puppies would be registered as whatever (with or without breeder's affix) and any puppy that the breeder of mum and dad bought and transferred into the same ownership as their affix would have the affix added IN FRONT of the puppy's registered name, rather than at the end.

Example:

'MyAffix Boy' is mated to 'MyAffix Girl'. Breeder of mum and dad buys a pup registered as 'Puppy Girl' and would then add their affix to make it 'MyAffix Puppy Girl'.

If the breeders of the litter had an affix ('TheirAffix'), the pup would end up registered as 'MyAffix TheirAffix Puppy Girl'.

Does that make sense LOL?

Just to add, as you say, this only applies if both parents are BRED (not just owned) by the affix holder in question. If they had just bred mum OR dad, they would have to add it on to the end as most people do.

If someone bred both parents and say buys a puppy in from the breeder they can then apply to have their affix at the beginning of the name rather than as usual added to the end.

So the pup would then have parents breeders affix, followed by breeders affix if they have one, and then the rest of the name.  Otherwise the pup would have breeders affix, rest of name, and new owners affix added, if of course they apply for it.

No!  Only the owner of the Affix can register a new pup with that name.

To give a real life example, we bred a dog, Afterglow Hugos There (Hugo), and a bitch, Afterglow Glitterbug (Barbie).  Barbie was subsequently sold.  Her new owner then decided to mate her to Hugo, and we had one of the pups back - registered as Jaclee Cry Baby, we then added out Affix to the front, so she became Afterglow Jaclee Cry Baby.  The breeder of the pup (affix Jaclee) could only register with her own affix, even though both parents were from the same breeder.  It was only us, as the breeder of the parents, who could add the parents affix.  This was not done at time of litter registration, but as a change of name, just the same as adding a new owners affix at the end of a name.
