well the pup that went funny the other day has me puzzled he ws fine yesterday apart fom being a bit lethargic and i fed him some lactol via syringe wich he wolfed down today he has been sucling and also took loads of lactol at 5pm anyway he seems very lethargic almost stiff when i have weighd him at birth he weighd 200g on the 20th he weighd 158g yesterday he weighd 144g and today 154g he has put on weight since yesterday but still seems very lethargic and stiff any help will be greatly appreciated

no help to offer but i hope your pups ok. how are the others getting on?
the others are ecellent put on 100g + in the last few days even the runt has put on weight and socks as we called him put on weight since yesterday he is in a box with a hot water bottle next to me i am wondering if he is just really full due to the hand feeding as he is not crying and is peeing and pooing ok would this make him lethargic and stiff as he has been fine all day

i don't know, maybe. he'll be sleepy after a good feed. i'd keep an eye on him though. really not wanting to alarm you, just trying to make you aware, but we lost a boy after 3 or 4 days. he'd been doing great, then one day put on a fair whack of weight and got quite lethargic, then he just slipped off. we think he might have had a heart defect or something and the grown strain put him over. just keep a watch on him, if (and i'm sure its not!) it is something similar to our boys then theres not really much else you can do.
best of luck with him, i'm sure hes just feeling tubby!
Hi Ashleigh
I had a small one in my litter which lost weight and got behind the rest. I decided not to supplement him with milk as felt that might cause digestive problems. I kept his fluids up with Liquid Life Aid (a cattle rehydration fluid) this gave him the strength to feed (although I used to hold him up to the teat and make sure that the others didn't knock him off). It paid off and we were so pleased when he got to weigh 1lb at around 10 days (my normal dog pup weighs around 19oz at birth). The other thing I did was to hold him up to mum to encourage her to clean him so that I could be sure that he wasn't constipated. Anyway he was always slightly behind the rest but was a strong boy in the end. He went to his new home last week at eight weeks and could not have been considered the runt by then. I do hope your boy picks up, I know how worrying it is and you feel such immense responsibility towards the puppies.
i dont think theres much we can do really ive noticed his left eye is swollen i think maybe one of the other pups cought it with a nail i think the vets will probs suggest he is pts tommorow was just hoping that it wouldnt come to that
I hope he's okay - at least if you are going to the vet with him you will have medical advice on what it is. Fingers crossed it is just a minor blip.
hi all sadly socks died early this morning and there was nothing i could do for him so we now have 12 pups who all seem to be very strong and healthy so hopefully he will be the only one we lose i didint expect him to make the night as his breathing was funny and he was very weak he was 6 days old he will go and keep babie his sister company at the gates and play in the fields and do all the things he wont be able to do here
Ashleigh
I'm so sorry for the little one - at least he is at peace now. Enjoy the rest of your babies.
I'm sorry Ashleigh, it's always sad, even though at this stage it's the best thing :(
12 is still a lot of pups, hope mum, and yourself of course, are doing ok :)

Aww the poor lil boy lost his fight did he?
At least he has his sister waiting for him xx

It sounds as if there was something congenitally wrong with the poor little chap from the start. :-( At least he's not suffering any more. Sleep well Socks.
