my 9 month old puppy finished her season 2 weeks ago and has gone through a total change in her personality, from a happy show girl into a 'moody won't do anything you ask me', (similar to a teenager), I haven't experienced this before with any other of my bitches any ideas as to what I can do,
thankyou in advance for any replies

Hi Barbara

I think all you can do is live though it. I have one bitch who is brilliant at obedience - for a few months a year. Before, during and after her season whilst she would be pregnant and feeding pups she is unpredictable (creative or obstinate) obedience wise.

If she starts to look unwell then get her checked for infection (pyometra)

One of my bitches had a month of (pre) PMT then her season, followed by two months (post) PMT, then she threw her coat, not an ideal show dog. Still she was wonderful for at least two months a year. Ja:)kie

Get real/lost Dave:D :D :D Jackie I'm hoping my bitch starting her seasons will bring on a change in her coat for the better:) I have heard too that often, they can still change after the first season- any advice, words of wisdom etc:)

Hi Stacey, yes it is common for a bitch to change after her first season, one can only hope it is for the best. Sorry Ja:)kie

Hi Stacey
I had the same problem with Nellie, and I was really worried about her. I thought she may have been having a phantom pregnancey but she suddenly snapped out of it after three days. She was really grumpy and depressed but then suddenly she was back to her jumpy self. Just bear with her and give her some room and she will be back to herself when she is ready. A bit like us women!!!

I hope so Jackie:) Everyone says you must be able to have an unbiased opinion of your dog- well my unbiased opinion is that she's got a crappy coat on her for a GSD:rolleyes: A breed specialist has also said that her only real downfall is her coat:( But he was the one that added things can change after her first season- fingers crossed eh:)

Hi Stacey , Maybe the coat will get better next time . I had a male gs and the coat was dreadful .
When he moulted and it was all out he got a nice coat .
I gave him bottles of wheatgerm oil and it did help
Fit and fertile is getting great reports so try it.
Now on the downside I also had one that had a rough looking coat and it never ever went right . Sorry but like you said you have to be honest .
hope it turns out well for you Marie

Hi there,

my last police dog was a bitch and ahe was a waste of space just before, during and after her season. She was fine for the rest of the time though....must have been PMT lol

Molly my shih tzu started her first season 24 days ago and I thought she had finished. But she is still trying to mount Barney and he is getting fed up with a ball of fluff a quarter of his size sitting on his head poor thing :D Hope she stops soon. I thought it only last about 21 days but not too sure.

Hello,
Daisy Jones is 7 months old and hasn't started yet. I am hoping it happens soon as I go to NYC at the end of November and Hubby joins me mid December, soooo I want to be with her through it, or at least her main man. Our friend will be puppy sitting for 2.5 weeks, and she is prepared for a possible heat (she has an older bitch, unspayed.) Here's a query: Some have said that she MAY calm down after her 1stseason...yes/no? Also, will her chronic discharge (yes, I've had vet take bloods, swabs, and tried anti-b's and homeo meds and she still DRIPS!) someday go away? And, finally: What do you lot recommend for sanitary needs? Panties, etc. that I can make or buy? Do Pets@Home carry any personal products for teenage pupsters?
Cheers,
Megan

I used sanitary underwear on my female they were called collection DABA DOO (hygienic panty)u can get them in the size u need. Then I just used pantyliners unscented in them. The pet store told me pantyliners are a lot cheeper than buying the dog ones.Of course changed them alot, and I just kenneled her at night so she wasn't always wearing them. They were velcro and my dog Junior would always try to take them off. Thats what I used and found it worked very good, u may want a couple of them, they even have a place for the tail, not like a boston has much of a tail.
