> I know that many people would not be keen to see this story in a paper but perhaps your local paper may be willing to run a story on this - of course you will have hundreds of unsuitable offers of homes but there will surely be many genuine ones coming through.

Oh please! Ashleigh, don't even think about going down that route. A story in the local paper will not only bring hundreds of enquiries, most of whom will be completely unsuitable, it will also be an invitiation for all the low-life and the druggies to break in to your house and steal these helpless babies to sell on. There are stories every week of baby puppies being stolen - and that's without their owners splashing their existence across the pages of the local newspaper. Doglost is offline until the beginning of June, but if you doubt my words please have a look as soon as it is back - you will be heartbroken by the stories of some of the dogs that are stolen.

yes it is a good idea to start advertising now but unless you are prepared to have people coming to see the pups now and leave deposits etc you will get messed around as lots of people dont want to wait for a puppy, most people would see your ad, say they wanted one and then go and buy one that was ready now rather then later

just to clarify they are not crosses they are pure bred and i have had quite a few people interested who SEEM to be really great so only a few to home now we nearly lost a boy this morning as he wasnt breathing and went stiff although when i checked them 5 mins before all were fine i gave him some dopram wich livened him up and then he wouldnt feed so out came the puppystim and he is fine now

>they are not crosses they are pure bred

Sorry, my mistake. When you posted back in April that you wanted her scanned

>"so i can guess the size of them incase they are large"

I assumed it was because the sire was unknown - if purebred you'd know how big they were going to be, wouldn't you?

it may turn out that you have to find homes for all of them again, as i and im sure plenty of other people on here have had people mess around lots of people arent prepared to wait 8 weeks for a pup when they can look in the local paper and buy one now, a deposit is the only real way that you can be sure

Ashleigh
Your biggest minefield could be from the ex-owner of your bitch cottoning on to the value of the nest full of puppies.

I wasn't suggesting it was a problem for rescue to sort out.  My thoughts were that if the story was told in the local paper the general sad plight of unwanted dogs could be highlighted as well as help Asleigh.  Therefore, rescue could gain from this - much like that programme there was on TV (can't remember the name but it had Julian Clary on it) that was able to highlight how many dogs were in rescue and needed homes.  JMHO.

Anyway my original point was -well done Asleigh - you are doing a grand job.  Hope the little lad is ok.

hi yes he is ok just had them vet checked and he was amazed she is producing enough milk for them all and he said they are all fighting fit but im not counting my chickens yet and the ex-owner has been in touch when she found out just what she had lost out on she has just had her baby and thought she could get money off me needless to say i told her to shove it and if she was willing to pay back the £160 i have just paid in vets bills and for everything i bought food, whelping box ect you know what i will have spent then she can have some off the sales and that changed her mind i got it in writing that she had gave me the dog ect so she cant say i stole her

i have also spoke to the vet about spaying and he said when the pups have gone to new homes and the milk has dried up he will do it

> I think we forget that emotions are involved here.
>

I think we are trying to take the emotion out of the situation and inject some realism.  The litter could have been removed and the bitch spayed at the time she was adopted but the OP.

Unfortunately the OP was under the impression that the litter would be small following a scan and opted to continue the pregnancy having decided to keep one and found another home or two.

The situation has turned out very differently.

I will lock this thread now and along with everyone else wish Ashleigh all the best and am sure we will continue to offer advice when needed.  I suggest opening a thread on homing strategies and contracts etc.

I think looking at contracts and homing avenues needs to be addresses asap, as that time really does fly and the pups will be looking for homes before we know it.

If your reading Ashleigh, have a look at some of the threads on contracts and homing pups, vetting techniques etc.
