Hi any gardeners out there.  My lillies are being attacked by what looks like elongated ladybirds without the spots.  Any idea what these are and how to deal with them organically.

Lily beetle?

Yep the dreaded Lily beetle, pick em off and squash em is the only way....rotten things they will desimate (Spelling) lillies....I had them last year, havent seen any yet but no doubt the larvae are there waiting to pop out and annoy me......

Lily beetle definately. you must squash them, if they mate, you will find what looks like black/brown gunk under the leaves near the stem. In this is a grub, KILL IT!!! I use a bit of loo roll :) to squish them.The beetles will usually drop to the floor if you disturb them, then climb back up.
Usually only found in the south, I've been killing them like mad. You have to check every day!!! look under the leaves as well.

Ooooh, nasty little so & so's - haven't got any this year 'cos we've moved & I've no lillies for them to attack ;-)  I used to go on red devil patrol & squish them, then it was the slugs that got skewered every night, then I bought a very handy SWD who kept eating the snails (someone is bound to tell me that they're poisonous to dogs) but she's still with us & has grown out of the snail eating phase (or maybe we just don't have snails in this garden).

My Vets have a poster up....slugs and snails COULD give a dog lung worm. So be cautious. :)

Thanks for that, fortunately she has stopped doing that now, she just pinches food off my worktop instead now & yes, she gets plenty to eat ;-)

And if they are fully of slug pellets they couold make the dog ill that way...directly they are harmless though.

We actually live in a lungworm hotspot and certain parks are a no go area for us - we just wouldn't risk it. At our vets a couple of dogs have been very very ill and one nearly died. We have to worm every month against lungworm. It is not only slugs and snails but frogs and foxes that carry it too!
Louis has started to find snails very interesting, so I have developed a 'Swapsie' game - for every undesirable ( to me :) ) thing he picks up, he brings it to me and I give him a treat. Obviously now we have him, I can't use slug pellets but my garden is full of the wretched things and my plants are suffering. Don't want to put salt on them - Louis will probably ask wheres the chips!!!

Maddie only ate a few, that I know of, and she was ill :( and treated for lungworm.
I dread it when the snails are out in force, especially at night, as I have to clear them up and I hate the dratted things!
