Hi,
Looking for some advice. Helping a friends that have just found out their 1yrs old has an enlarged heart.

Very very long story, but in short everything was fine, a happy healthy puppy.

Oct 07 the then 6 month old puppy had a GA to remove ear hair. ( Before anyone says that is un-necessary I know but they didn't). Following the GA the puppy was left with a cough, and bringing up bial, which their vet diagnosed as a throat/ lung infection and gave anti-biotics. they took the puppy back several times saying the puppy still had a cough. The puppy has had several blood tests all clear.
The puppy has since had a further 2 GAs, an eye op to remove a thorn and another ear hair removal followed by anti-biotics.
Following the last GA last week their vet also did an xray diagnosed an enlarge heart, spots on lungs and another lung infection.

Would apreciate any advice from others who have experienced problems with enlarged hearts and expecilly in one so young!!!!

Hi
We have a four year old Bichon. When he was 1 year old he had a heart valve operation. One of the other symptoms was a cough although nothing at all wrong with his lungs. After the operation, carried out in Edinburgh, they said his heart was enlarged due to the strain it had been under. Now he is fine and his checkups have been positive. Please insist that heart as well as lungs are checked again because the animal hospital can help especially when they are so young. Tell your friends to seek second opinion. Good luck to them.

I would agree, I would want the pup seen by a Veterinary cardiologist to see if his heart really is enlarged.
