I had my darling dog spayed on Friday. She's a 15 month old Estrela Mountain Dog.
Apparently the operation took longer than expected because she had problems with blood clotting. The vet said she lost quite a lot of blood.
She is OK now but has been lethargic all weekend. I've got to make sure she takes it easy because if she bursts her stitches it will be an emergency due to the clotting problem.
The vet said they suspect lungworm and have given me treatment for that, but they don't know for sure and testing for lungworm is more expensive than just treating it. We could have blood tests done to find out why she isn't clotting properly, but the vet said we might as well wait until she needs another op before doing the tests.
I asked what if it was an emergency and the vet said if it was an emergency she would be bleeding anyway.
Should I just accept this? Should I be worried? She has never had any health problems before.
