Can anyone give me advice on dog poop. She is an 8month old lab which i got from a rescue centre 3 months ago. However she needs to poop about 8 times a day and by mid afternoon they have become very sloppy. This was mentioned when we first got her and I also mentioned it when I had her neutered and was told not to worry but to put her on high protein. However she refuses to eat dried food and so I am having to give her tinned. She is very lively and shows no other signs of ill health infact people comment on how healthy she looks. Am i just worrying over nothing or could there be something seriously wrong.

She may be allergic to something in her food or treats, like artificial colours, preseratives etc. Treats, especially, are often loaded with strange things, so cut out everything except a nice plain food and see how it goes. I've had problems before so only ever feed James Wellbeloved and absolutely no treats or titbits, except maybe a few bits of kibble (same stuff). I'm not sure higher protien helps, as I think (but stand to be corrected) that any excess protien only gets passed anyway.

It sounds as though you'd rather feed dried food, in which case break her in gently by mixing-in the dried. Dogs will seldom starve themselves, they just know that if they can hang it out they may get something better, and it usually works.

if you are feeding only tin meat and no mixer with it ,that could cause it, going 8 times a day is a bit much, are you over feeding, trying different foods sudenly could also cause some of it,i would also drop the protein as well, have you had the vet look at your dog, hope it all settles soon regards tina

My friend has a GSD with a very sensitive tummy. she had her on a food for ages that suited her, and then they changed the formulation.

She now feeds Arden Grange Classic Lam and Rice. The dogs are really good on it.

It is a dry food, but your dog will learn to eat it if you mixz a spoonful of her tinned meat with it, until eventually you can stop.

Tinned food often gives horible smelly sloppy poos, and lots of them. It is an expensive way to give water, as they are 80% water.

Is it a large volumn of pooh as well as frequent - if so you may be feeding her too much and she is not digesting it just passing it straight though?
