Topic Dog Boards / Health / End of free prescriptions?
- By Ells-Bells [gb] Date 06.05.08 15:20 UTC
I suggested to a friend recently she ask her vet for prescription and search for cheaper suppliers of the medication for her cats and dogs.  She has just been in to the vet and collected the prescription only to be told that they will only be free until October - is this correct?

I would have thought that the vet could charge now if they chose to. It is probably just her practice that has decided to charge as from October.

No they will be allowed to charge from October it seems.

Don't know if the law has changed but currently
'for medicines that require a prescription, you can ask your vet for one to take away, which they must, by law, provide free of charge.'

Oh! Right. Seems odd that they can't charge after all why should they perform a service they are not being paid for no one else would.
