Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / going for a walk after a season

I have just taken  my bitch out and let her off over the park for the first time since she came into season, the first signs of blood were over 4 weeks ago.  I took her to the vet to basicall ask when it would be safe to take her out again (this is my first puppy so I need all the advice I can get)

2 dogs came bounding over to her, sniffing her and barking like mad today.  Their owner shouted at me and told me that I was irresponsible for taking her out and that she should be in!  The vet told me she would be safe to go out now...........

Who's right????

Unless she is exceptional the vet was. She could still smell though and an inexperienced dog may think they were in with a chance.

I usually give mine a nice bath when she finishes her season, that way it helps to lessen any  lingering smell :)

Don't know why the woman was shouting at you??  when she's the one with unruly dogs   I've had this myself tho, owner with yobbo dog which rushes up and immediately starts trying to mount and my bitch telling the dog off and then the owner telling me I should keep my bitch in as she's in season, this is when she's no where near a season! ;)  They're trying to pass the blame for their own lack of training
