Hi, we're taking our nine month old daughter abroad for a week. Does anyone know if it's ok to pack jars of food in your suitcase?
Also, any handy hints or tips would be appreciated as we're new to all this!
Thanks
Simone :)

Where are you going?
Baby food in jars in your suitcase should not be a problem they probably won't let you take any in hand luggage.

Take a couple of changes of clothes in your hand luggage, and babywipes, tissuesand nappies, and empty bags for soiled clothing, also favourite toy, especially if your baby needs it to sleep. If so, this toy should be firmly attached to something so you can't possibly drop it otherwise your holiday will be very hard work.
If you may need to give baby food on plane check out with airline first if they will let you take in hand luggage. Take baby feeder cup and spoons with you.
During take off and landing baby may cry due to earache from pressure changes, sucking resolves this so try dummy or breastfeed her milk or ask airline if you can take a bottle for her when you are allowed to take seat belt off.
How long is your flight?
We took a holiday to Malta with our 6 month old son, many years ago, and the cot we had ordered did not appear in the room until the fourth day so i was very glad i had taken a travel cot - depends how reliable your travel company is.

We're going to Cala D'Or. I think the flight is three hours, so not too bad, but it's at 7 in the morning, so we need to be at airport for 5 am! Hopefully she won't wake up till we're at the airport.
Cala D'or is in the South East of Mallorca isn't it?? We have an apartment in Mallorca and the flight from Gatwick is only 1 hour 50 mins actually in the air, so you should be fine. They will let you take a bottle of milk through but when my brother went with his baby they made him take a sip from it! There is a Boots as you go through passport control and you can buy liquids to take on board in this area so I would suggest getting a couple of cartons of baby milk to put in your hand luggage. I would also take some cartons of milk in your suitcase to be ready for when you get there. My children are 11 and 7 now but when I used to go when they were babies I used to buy a sterilising set from Mothercare which consists of plastic bags and tablets, which you fill with bottled water, so doesn't take up much room in your case. (not sure if they still do them??) I would suggest if you take jars in your case that you wrap them up tightly in a towel or something.
Don't worry if you forget anything as in some of the tourist areas there are large supermarkets where you can get everything anyway!!
Have fun and take plenty of suncream!!
