Hi Guys!
First thing im going to say is Thank you for viewing this and i hope you can help me!
Well my dog was mated on the 22nd of February, she was due on the 25th of April (Shes four days late)
Anyway..
She has been nesting for about a 4 days now, She lost her mucous plug on Saturday, She is still nesting but showing no other obvious labour signs, her Temp went down this morning to 36.9 C, it has been around 37.4 C the past week, she is also not producing any milk, i can see her teats are full but i cant ejaculate it.
Xray showed only 2 puppies
She seems very sleepy, but is having the occasional play with my other bitch now and again
I almost forgot she is a 21 month old .
How long do you think she has got left? How long should i wait before i should take her to the vets?
Also she keeps grooming herself, and she is still eating!

Firstly welcome to the site.No doubt someone will be along soon who is better with your breed.
Hello thankyou for the welcome, i never even knew this site existed its great!

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
How many matings did she have and over what period?
I am not that experienced in this field but if she has lost the plug on Saturday then I would hope she would give birth very soon. If her temp has also dropped then this is also a good sign.
I always say, if in doubt telephone your vet, my vet talks to me over the phone if I have a problem, and we can normally solve any queries.
Good luck and keep us in formed xx

Hi
I bred my first litter last year the pups are now 8 months. My girl had inertia due to a very large pup and needed a c-section but generally have few probs whelping. Let us know how it geos. Could be any time now if the plug has come away.

Hi
If i have no puppies by tomorrow, i will be taking her to the vet in the evening.
Hi guys, I need a little help with some temperature labour issues, this is going to be quite a long post so I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it.
Well lets start from scratch my bitch was mated on the 22nd of February total accident, which made her due on Friday, as the weeks have gone by I have not thought she was pregnant, her stomach got firmer and her nipples got perkier, but no obvious weight gain, so I have not been too worried about pregnancy (don't worry I have whelped before, so no need for research).
Well on Thursday night she started nesting, at first I was totally oblivious to her being pregnant, and then I remembered about the mating, which would make her due Friday as said.
So I was thinking it must be a phantom pregnancy as she has not got any larger.
I decided to take her temperature and it was at 37.9 pretty normal.
Then on Saturday morning she lost her plug, that was it she must be pregnant, so I contacted my vet made him aware of the situation.
Anyway to carry on, I have been recording her temperature and here are what I have from Thursday.
37.9, 37.4, 37.6, 37.2, 37.1 then this morning it dropped to 36.9 so I thought she must have puppies by tomorrow morning, so just now I took her temp and its back up at 37.4
Can somebody please help me out here, never have I had a bitch's temp drop so low then shoot back up again.
What do you suggest? I think I will go to the vet tomorrow evening if nothing has occurred.
She is not panting also, she seems pretty restless though, and she is also eating and drinking as normal.
Can somebody please help me out?

I think you are a stupid person u knew when she was mated so why not take her to the vets ...

My bitch's temp fluctuated a little in the 48 hours or so before dropping significantly and, like you, I expected labour to be within the next 24 hours or sooner - that was until it went back up again. However later that same night she did go into labour, around an hour after readily eating a meal so clearly she hadn't read the same books as me.
I hope that as well as your vet being on stand by you have had time to sort out the multitude of things you'll need during the whelping and that you are now fully prepared for it to be any time soon - you say you have experienced this before but that being the case it's a little alarming that you took no preventative measures re the misalliance and were oblivious to her being in whelp until just a couple of days ago ...
I hope this is some help to you at any rate and that despite not having had the extra care required for a healthy pregnancy that the whelping goes well and, most importantly, your bitch suffers no traumas nor requires professional intervention.
Best wishes, Teri

How is your reply conducive to helping someone in
that situation. We all make mistakes, but someone is asking for help and advice here!

Sorry HowdyHey, my reply was for mygirl. No offence intended to anyone
> I think you are a stupid person u knew when she was mated so why not take her to the vets ...
Not sure thats very helpful advice, no need to be so rude. O.K maybe the OP could have taken measures back then but its the here and now he/she's dealing with and would like advice.
Hope someone comes along with some advice for you HowdyHey.

My girls temp did that and then dropped right down she also didn`t pant much until the last ten minutes before birth of first pup.I had doubts she was in labour at all .My other girl was the exact opposite and panted for 24 hrs.
Don`t be put off asking for help you will find it here .

Would take her to the vet if you are at all worried about her condition. Has she been eating ok, Is she drinking more than you would expect. I hope she is about to give birth but she could also have Pyo so do not leave it too long if you are worried. I speak from personal experience of a bitch who gave all the right signs but was only carrying a womb full of puss.
Sorry I am not really trying to scare you although I may have done so, I am concerned that you do not leave it too long; if she lost her plug then I would expect something to start very soon.

Not a breeder, but isn't 5 days a long time to go over? If there is still no progress I would pop her to the vets, just to check everything is normal.
I hope everything goes ok for you and your girl.

Nope, my old vet would never do anything until the 71st day as long as pups could be felt and the bitch seemed fine.

Yes it seems to be the same litter.
I hope the owner is responsible enough to have eye tested both dam and sire - though of course the sire is too young really to be tested (though hopefully he was litter screened as a pup).
Kate
I wouldn't wait until the evening - ring your vets first thing in the morning. If you are really worried you should ring your vet now - they should have someone on call and you can discuss this with them. They may be able to put your mind at rest or get you to bring her in now. Hope everything goes okay.

Personally I'd be at the vets now, it could be inertia in which case nothing is going to happen and the pups
could be in trouble. Can you feel the pups moving? if not I'd be very worried!
I find it hard to believe that you didn't feel any movement of the pups in the last two weeks

in a small bitch like yours I'd definately expect to be feeling something.
We're all anxiously waiting for news- hope all is well.
how is your girl doing cant wait to here some good news

Seems both posts have been joined together?
Now i'm confused......but hope all is well
> Seems both posts have been joined together
That is correct. Problem was that breeds kept being mentioned, which is contrary to the terms of Service, so the original thread was moved for editing.

Ok, thanx Brainless :)

Sorry for the breed mention Brainless. Won't do it again!!

Hi HowdyHey,
Have the puppies arrived.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but for future litters, people get confused a dogs temp is much higher than a humans.
Normal temp for a dog is 101.5 F ( Book of The Bitch p102).
I have had a bitch's temp drop as low as 36.5 before whelping.
Good Luck,
Let Us Know :-)

what is 101.5 F in centigrade please?

Think it's 39.5.
But not good at converting so not 100% :-(

Just checked it on a converter and 101.5 fahrenheit is 39 celsius :-)
Are the puppies here yet?
