Hi,
Our pup has been out for his first walks this week after all his vaccinations. He has been treated for fleas etc but this afternoon I found what I can only assume was a tick latched onto his chest. Using tweezers as close to his skin as I could get, I managed to detach the little beast but having read up on these pests, I'm concerened that some of it may have been left behind?
I've had another look at the site and can't see anything. Can anyone with more experience of these things offer any advice? Pup seems fine and I'm sure it won't be the last time but I've read on some old posts about some nasty illnesses carried by these bugs and just want to make sure I've got it right.
Thanks

first bit of advice is DONT USE tweezers. If your pup has been treated then the tick will just drop off by itself. If you do take the tick off then use tick removers, they are soo eazi. I can remove ticks from my dogs if needed to by myself, but I have had years of doing it, but the tick remover is best. If you leave the head of the tick in you risk an abcess developing. The illness you are thinking of is Lymms disease, humans can get it as well. A friend of mine has it at the moment and it is not good. even though my dogs are treated, I have a nightly tick check to make sure that they dont have any. Where we live we get lots.
