When the owner came home an hour later she immediately rang us and brought the puppy in. Poor little chap was about to pop! He only weighs 3kg (now) and they had to open him up to remove 1½ kg - half his bodyweight!!! - of food from his stomach! Luckily he's made a good recovery but is thoroughly fed up at having to be caged with a buster collar so that he doesn't open his stitches. Hopefully the insurance will cover his bill of around £800 ....

This also applies if you own a greedy breed...regardless of age.I know of one adult dog who ate a huge amount of kibble and died from the after effects.

Mines could never get to the food BUT I would love some of them to have that appetite :-)

One of my dogs managed to get through two closed doors, into my bedroom, open the drawer of my bedside cabinet and steal the half bar of cadbury's Turkish Delight chocolate that I was keeping for that night. I got home to find the wrapper, chewed on the floor. To say I was annoyed was an understatement - they suffered from no ill effects - I longed for that chocolate all night :-D :-D :-D

Our dog food is kept in a large bin in the kitchen and they never touch it, yet when we had a rubbish bin of the same kind they were constantly knocking it over to rake the rubbish and even now we have to secure the door to the cupboard where the bin is kept. :-D :-D

Dreadful - poor little mite :(  Still, hopefully on the mend and a lesson learnt and useful warning/reminder to all of us. 

My new pup would easily do the same thing given the chance - he's literally obsessed with food and has to be watched like a hawk (TBH it's great as usually this breed is faddy LOL)

Poor little mite.  Glad he's going to be OK.  Mine are a bunch of gannets too, so I keep food in big screw top barrels to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Our Puppy is 9 weeks old and will leave her own but carry on with Jacks (dry JWB) unless stopped.

Because it was 11:30 the night before when I started it and it was a really big bar :-D :-D :-D

That is one choc bar I would have no trouble leaving, Turkish delight yuk, it's like eating jellied Rose/flower water.

LOL the frys bar could be seen by some to be like that Barbara however the cadburys one isnt as gelatinous and is far removed from traditional turkish delight. I try to aviod them all far tooooooo moreish :-D

before Christmas our lurcher broke into the dining room where we were storing gifts (both received and to be sent) and she ate 2 x chocolate oranges, and a small Galaxy bar (that was from my Mum's Siamese to me ;)) and she also found the box containing the top 2 tiers of our wedding cake and gnawed at half the top layer!!

yup she was very very ill - threw it all up a few hours later and thankfully was fine, if not a bit sorry for herself.....

the other dogs believe anything within nose reach on the kitchen sides is fair game, so it's our fault really if they snaffle anything!

My GSD managed to steal a huge giftwrapped box of Thorntons chocolates my daughter had bought for her boyfreinds mother for christmas and hidden under her  bed.
As if that wasn,t bad enougth she was six and a half weeks in whelp eek
There was only a few shreds of paper left .
She had no ill effects whatsoever but it very nearly finished me off,I still sweat when I think of it and it was eleven and a half years ago.

i too keep the food in a tightly sealed bin which they never touch, i evan forget to put the lid on the other night and only found out an hour later when i went to make a cup of tea.
I was so shocked that they didnt touch the food as newfs are greedy.(at least mine are).

But i still cant keep a bin in the kitchen as they have knocked over many types and steal the contents ediable or not!!!
